T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

...I can just go the long way somewhere. No issues yet but only 7k on the clock. We never got any warning lights on the JLR, just constant oil dilution from failed regeneration. I feel like all manufacturers should provide some standard driver feedback to help with this. Just a % in one of the...

    Wash & Wax Time . . . . . . But Which One And How?

I was given a bottle of this autobrite magifome tried it out yesterday nice foaming but not much dirt removed so wasn’t impressed. What I was impressed with was chemical guys extreme body wash and wax used it through the lance mixed with warm water.

    Service intervals for a T6.1

...at 17000 miles and last week had an official Vw oil change at 22500 miles. My suggestion is replace it every 6k miles or one year even if you drive less than that. This is the only way to prevent diesel dilution in the sump due to Dpf failed regen. Fresh oil is cheaper than replacing the...

2020 110PS manual: engine oil usage

...servicing is aimed at fleets with a company vehicle life of 5 years before selling off for others to suffer the consequences. IMO the synthetic oil can deal with the 20000 between oil changes, it’s just the high risk of engine damage from fuel dilution in that time. Plenty more fish in the sea.

    Service Fluids and Additives

...between oil changes. I don't do short journeys and I always use V Power and Castrol Edge fully synthetic by the way. I've read about oil dilution and catch cans etc so I've just been thinking about things........especially since I had my manifold replaced (twice!). Any thoughts would be...

    T6.1 - DPF Failure at 30,000 miles?

Probably the constant attempts to regen have led to the oil dilution. I'd get the DPF replaced, oil changed and see how it goes from there Revo maps have a decent reputation, so I'd leave that be until you've had the other work done and run it.

    2017 T6 150 manual ticking noise

@Ace has the vans oil level been increasing without adding oil? Valve gear wear doesn’t appear to be a common defect but if the oil were diluted with fuel reducing viscosity and film strength it could cause accelerated wear. Does the van have full service history?

    Wash & Wax Time . . . . . . But Which One And How?

Yeah I use this. Which I dilute as per the instructions in the bottle to 1-5 parts of water.

A recurring oil issue on T6,1.

2% dilution is a cautionary level, 4% is the potential lubrication failure level for Diesel engine lube oil analysis. While there have been significant improvements in synthetic oil properties I think the source of the ‘don’t worry‘ opinion is the motor manufacturers themselves. Let’s face it...

    DPF remap - MOT risks?

It would be more likely that repeated failed regeneration would result in dilution of the oil.

[Resolved] T6 Oil level too high

You don’t, if you do oil analysis It’s on the report as a % £45 is about 20min’s labour in a garage as far as I’m aware.

    Engine flush at service

...have their micron spec’ and anything smaller will pass through. Whether the smaller particles will significantly reduce engine life is debatable. IMO an oil analysis is far more useful, DPF de-generations will be causing fuel dilution and that definitely will reduce engine and turbocharger life.

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

I would angree oil contaminated by fuel needs changing and in fact siphoning it off will only lead to wear rates increasing as the remaining oil/fuel mixture is contaminated further. The dealers that try that one are wither daft or great at making sure you come back to spend more on repairs -...

Dead turbo at 46k miles :-(

There’s a very good chance that poor oil quality is the cause. The acceptable limit for fuel dilution is 2% by volume. Re-generations plus potential injector failure will force fuel under high boost pressure into the crankcase. The ONLY way to monitor this is with regular oil analysis. Sniffing...

    Seeking non-VW advice

I can only go on the experience we have had, although we moved each car on at less than 40K miles so I can't know what problems awaited the new owners.

Another post about too much oil warning light

Hi, I’ve recently bought a t6.1 70 plate with 21,000 miles and all these issues are the same for me, where as I’ve actually gone down the route of having everything I can possibly do/work on. Id had it at VW specialist garage twice and obviously seeing this forum before hand I knew what I needed...

    Oil consumption

From memory it takes 0.5L to raise from minimum to maximum oil level on the dipstick. Being 1.5L below minimum is very low. My 2016, CFCA 180ps oil level does not visibly reduce between annual oil changes (8-10K miles) and oil analysis does not show fuel dilution.

[Resolved] T6 Oil level too high

...regularly check the oil level and visual condition. Lights and bells are usually activated well after action should have been taken. It is possible to have fuel dilution and not have a raised oil level if the engine is consuming oil. Oil analysis is the only 100% guaranteed way to determine this.

Oil Analysis shows high levels of Iron

VW BiTDI's are real fun ... I have an old 180 that is guzzling oil under load. New dpf fitted in the Spring and then the oil usage was obvious, egr blanked and mapped, compression is good all round. 2nd oil analysis next, now I have put a few k miles in. Mind you the rate I add oil sometimes...
