One for the cam belt pros.
Need some decent reference material for an apprentice mechanic my lad knows fir fitting a cambelt on a CAAB engine [1.9 TDI 2016]
His old man is an old classic engine guy like myself and doesn't know how to set modern ones.
needs reference material, How to set them...
I’m considering too to upgrade my 180A alternator to an 240A one. This is on a eu5 T6 bluemotion with auto start stop CAAC engine. Wondering if its a straight swap so i can have it done while the cambelt work going
Give it all a good clean and you'll then see how bad it's leaking. It will need doing though as it will only get worse and as the cambelt need to come off you may as well get the changed at the same time.
2016 EUR5 T6 with engine code CAAC on 172k. Only ever spent on oil changes on the engine. All the rest (brakes, clutch, tyres) seem to be decent and last too.
Edit : precautionary cambelt at suggested interval by previous owner.
Mines in for this at the moment, cambelt and waterpump too as the water pump has slight leak.
Just had clutch and flywheel done too last week...expensive month
These are quite common to leak.
People will normally get them replaced as preventative maintenance when doing the cambelt due to the close proximity when already stripped down
Hi All,
Any recommendations for a West Midlands based VW specialist for an upcoming major service + cambelt and DSG etc? I'm already aware of VAGCar and Midland VW but looking for any others that you guys may have had a good experience with.
Cheers in advance.
...an email to main dealer Lookers, Ballieston and they came back with the current recommended mileage of 140,000 miles and no time limit for cambelt change. Doesn't do anything to relieve my "cambelt paranoia " though :D
I remeber many folk on this forum getting theirs done at 40,00...
Yes, i had a look but they are mostly hidden by the charge cooler. Its deteriorated noticably since the cambelt was done a couple of days ago, so i think i will go back with all the useful info from here and ask him to have a look for me.
My t6.1 will be 5 years old in September. Has been serviced every year and only done 19,000 miles . I am a bit confused as to when the cambelt should be changed . Vw poole are saying every 5 years but independent garage says roughly 60 -70,000 miles ?
My previous van was a t5 which I had for 8...
Thanks,
it’s really many miles in the last few years as used as a second van for holidays only but has had a lot of the big jobs completed - turbo, cambelt, water pump, discs and pads etc…
Thanks for looking
Hope you find what you after.
iI have just paid £1000 to have mine done on my 2017 T32 by an excellent independent garage in Newcastle. It had the cambelt and waterpump replaced at the same time.
