I wouldn’t know where to begin to discuss. But I do have two new streams of info that may may not help?! Or just raise more questions.
Swapped driving with wife to allow me to study Victron shenanigans.
A) noted when I turned the DC ti DC off in settings, the Solar kicked in (weak sun) and...
Yes I connected the engine live brown / black small gauge cables that went into the original SCR into the Orion XS. Definitely worth doing. I've now got my Fogstar lithium and Smartshunt in and everything working beautifully.
Hi everyone 👋
We have a VW T6 Transporter, 2016 (75 kW TDI, CXGB engine), and want to convert it for light camping use – nothing fancy, mainly:
some LED lighting in the back
charging for laptop and phones
possibly a diesel air heater later
The van came with a factory dual battery setup...
Over the past year, I found that the capacity of the existing battery was inadequate for a couple of nights off-grid. Having seen a 160 on the Roamer stand at the NEC show fitted into a T6.1 seat base, I went for it as it looked like it would fit underneath my passenger seat (pictured below)...
As @Drive Wayne says. I have exactly the same DC-DC under my passenger seat too and 3 cables to attach the Ablemail. It took longer to change the settings on the Ablemail than it did to fit it!
Unless you are really going to stretch the capacity with sustained off grid use or you just like lots of data then probably not.
That's a good set of kit, though I'd go for the smaller and cooler running Orion XS DC-DC and downrate in software.
If you find you do need one they are reasonably...
I did the exact same thing! I ordered the c1000 + The expansion battery, awsome deal!
I am looking to charge it will driving using one of these options.
If I am correct, using the VictronOrion TR Smart DC-DC Or the regular one, I should have something like 300 watts vs 120watts max using the...
Apologies in advance for my ignorance on this topic; I'm trying to learn. The below is the view into my leisure battery hole. The conversion was done in 2018 and I'm now upgrading it myself, after the AGM battery has slowly died. I have replaced the leisure battery with the ECO-WORTHY 12V 100Ah...
The issue is the smart alternator tries to keep the starter battery at about 80% and will idle the alternator when possible. This means a traditional split charger won’t charge the leisure battery properly or fully. So with a smart alternator equipped vehicle you want to look at DC to DC...
We never advertise electrical upgrades or rewires, but we have been doing them for more years than I can remember and it’s increasingly getting more popular,
Some are purely wanting the ability to be of grid, others are due to Covid builders who leave the customer with a very dangerous...
So the Victron charger isn't the charger that works from the EHU/240v - that one is built into the Sargent unit.
The VictronOrion is your DC-DC charger that chargers your leisure battery from the van - you can tell this as it's currently telling you it's not charging as the input voltage isn't...
That's a much longer run and so you'll get more voltage drop, and more heat so I'd personally want to increase the size.
I'm using an Orion XS with the standard factory wiring and it's been perfectly fine, but mine is under the passenger seat.
If your starter battery is fully charged then the smart alternator will only put out 12.6 volts or so.
So basically yes you need to turn on a high load which will make the alternator push up the voltage to say 13.8 volts or 14 or more votes. That's will then enable the dc dc charger to put out...
And on this note - rather than the Orion TR you might want to consider the new Orion XS (if you can wait until March) as it's smaller, runs cooler and can change up to 50a.
Comparing the 2, the DCC50s limits the DC-DC to 25a if there's anything coming in on solar, so if you end up going for a...
Help please. I have a VictronOrion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Isolated unit along with a SmartSolar charge controller under my driver's seat.
I have downloaded the Victron App and both are shown in the Device List but I can't get it to pair.
I have taken a photo of the PN and SN and underneath is...
Yes, the remote H pin is just telling the charger function to power on or off, not powering on the device.
The DC-DC is getting power from the battery. If it wasn't, the remote wouldn't work.
1. Lithium leisure battery under seat running all 12volt stuff (whatever size you decide)
2. VictronOrion XS 50 amp Non Isolated DC-DC battery ( charges battery whilst driving)
3. Victron BMV-712 Smart Bluetooth Battery Monitor ( simple display with Bluetooth so you check it on your phone if...
I was told split charger by my converters but when I queried and spoke to the electrician he’s fitting a VictronOrion DC - DC unit. Maybe a similar (& not very good) description by the converters but definitely worth checking
