That is the going rate I think, my daughter had an Audi A1 done 3 years ago and that is same quote.
My T28 was done at a local garage by previous owner Sept 2025 not genuine parts and was £915 inc Vat and they used Dayco Timing Belt and Pump kit apparently they are not good parts, but at least...
...considered that. I've just lost power steering to add to the problems too. I need to check the auxilary belt tomorrow. If that's failed, I don't want it causing cambelt damage. I suppose the loss of power steering too could be linked to the electrical system & could be caused by battery failure ?
Hey all!
We got a T6 that had a cambelt failure, no other damage then one broken roller from a valve.
Took the head off. Had it checked, mesured the piston height and so on. Head went back on with new gasket and new belt.
Now it wont start.
No other fault codes then some dpf codes, its removed...
Just to close out where I got to on price. I ended up using Midland VW.
I paid £860 for:
Cambelt
Water pump
Aux belt
New Tensioner
Crank Shaft Seal
The Aux/ Tensioner/ seal were done just because they were in the area and the price was good. All VW genuine parts too.
Oil pump belt change so early is nice precaution measure but maybe a bit of an overkill. Unbelievable prices comparing to the cost of the service parts but that what you pay for an hour for the work.
Hello,
Long story short planning on doing my own cambelt change on my 2017 T6 CXHA.
I’ve studied Vag tech video and read manufacturer instructions but have couple questions.
1) Is it essential to loosen both Camshaft pulley and also high pressure fuel pump one?
2) I have noticed in videos...
Looks like the poptops will have to go on the back burner for now... My cambelt has just snapped ... and I had it booked in for a change the Wednesday after next 😭
my opinion completely what’s the point in throwing 35k plus at a vehicle and skimping on a Cambelt change for peace of mind.
Let’s not forget going back a year or so 80k or 4 years was the guidance which is what @VanMan48 is currently looking at
...that's actually replaced one. They're under a very light load, they're quite beefy considering the job they do, and don't degrade like wet cambelts can.
I think the whole point - like wet camnelts - is that they're in there for life, difference being wet cambelts were a gamble too far and...
...VW Manchester this week for some warranty work, it's 2 years, 8 months old and they told me the brake fluid was overdue by 8 months and the cambelt is due in 16 months. Everything I've read says 3 years for first brake fluid change and cambelt is now mileage based, not time.
Anyone know of...
Well, it ended up being the cambelt that was replaced 13 months ago (by the previous owner) was suspected to be overtightened. All the pulley's were seized, the baring had fallen out of the one pulley and that was the ticking noise I could hear. There's teeth missing on the cambelt, water pump...
I was thinking the same! Change of wheels and a few tweaks and it’s done! I’m considering going for a butchers and off load the t5.1 4mo (now I’ve just had the cambelt and some other mechanicals/servicing done) 🤪
