The problem is a pita they won’t do anything about it unless you complain about it and of course it only really happens during a regen …it’s not an issue that prevents the van running or passing an mot etc just a horrible experience for the human beings inside the vehicle ! I wish I had...
You don’t need to do anything with the cooling, just make sure the blanking plates go direct to the cooler if possible then if there is a coolant leak into the EGR plus a splitpipe you won’t loose coolant.
...is what is noticeable to the driver, audible and pressure (performance) loss.
It should be easy to locate as the induction air will carry some oil from the crankcase breather and possibly turbocharger seals, there will be an oily stain.
Or it’s a splitEGRpipe which will be obvious when...
Hi,
There seems too be a few horror stories about these engines on the Internet atm. I thought it would be good to get a survey going to gauge how everyone is getting on.
Mine:
2017 204 bhp 57k - no problems other than a splitegrpipe. Uses no oil.
Has anyone had this issue with CFCA engine, had new engine ,turbo and DPF fitted 4000 miles ago ,all been running well ,then today the dreaded fumes in the cab started ,got back it was like the engine was on fire coming out of the front grill .Can a split in the EGRpipe cause this ?
There is a pipe that connects the crankcase to the inlet. It is there to consume the oil Vapor from the engine and mix it into engine to burn it up. This vapor condenses in the charge cooler or intercooler and in the plastic manifold. The EGR gasses also feed into the manifold and that whole...
Thanks @Dellmassive
That charge cooler was replaced 2 years ago, you might remember the old one had a tiny split in the hose caused by the old charge cooler shearing it’s mounting. This one is the newer design.
The silver pipe I circled comes out of the EGR cooler assembly doesn’t it? I am...
Maybe it has been ‘split’ because it’s blocked? Putting a gash in it would relieve the back pressure. I can’t imaging it splitting by itself, the engine would stop running before the pressure got high enough to split the casing.
I’m surprised you can smell exhaust fumes in the cab I would have...
I've had a splitEGRpipe replaced with about 10 minutes of warranty remaining but looking at the bit of pipe I reckon it's something I could do at home.
The Adblu countdown of doom got us in Glasgow and luckily managed to get the camper in a local main stealers there and they told me there was...
I have an early T6 (Feb 2016) CAAC engine 140 bhp with about 42k miles. It went into the garage last week as it was running rough with the coil light flashing followed some time later by the engine management light. The garage said it was a crank shaft sensor and had the van last week. I've been...
Had the same error codes on our van before Christmas @Brodskibeat. The EGR cooler had previously been flushed at the local VW Centre, but only lasted about 4,000 miles before this happened again.
I now use a VW-trained Indy, and they also said that they don’t recommend doing flushes as it is a...
...and P204F (Reductant System Performance Bank 1) codes at me on and off.
VW Main Dealer already did a software update and replaced a splitEGRpipe, but the EML came back after about 1,000 miles. The van runs great, starts well, drives smoothly, no smoke and no noticeable loss of power...
I am but the irony is the van drives fine, just have constant EML on after every long drive hence the consideration to have coded out and i guess why some experienced techs are suggesting it might be the only way
Do you mean EGRpipesplit?
On mine they found a slight gasket leak on turbo air...
It's hard to say from a distance but it seems the original failure was caused by a splitEGR cooler. I would take that back off and check that the EGR to inlet manifold are clear. I had a Qashqai in where the garage said DMF had failed. I found the EGR was wrecked and the gearbox/engine mount...
