Diesel fuel dilution criteria according to Miller:
2% by volume - caution.
4% by volume - failure.
4% of 7.4L = 296mL. Safe to say that oil is being diluted beyond recognised safe limits and causing accelerated engine wear.
It depends, some early T6.1 had late T6 engines (MY19). Which interestingly means that MY18 T6 and MY19 T6 sometimes have different engines with same power output. It's the emission control system which makes the difference. Confusing - yes, indeed
The same happened with early T6 - early ones...
Don't know the details about A6 but e.g. T6 doesn't finish DPF regen at standstill...

The oil is being diluted by either coolant (very unlikely) or diesel (very likely).
There is a good deal of information on oil dilution, it's not uncommon and nor is it just a VW issue, it's plagued a lot of JLR Euro6 diesel engines too...
I’ve got a December 2020 Vw t6.1 kombi. I purchased it when it was a year old so I don’t know what happened in its first year but I’ve had nothing but issues with the ‘reduce oil level, go to workshop’ warning for the past 2 years.
I have been to my local Vw dealership a number of times and...
Do you know that you've definitely overfilled your Adblu tank only we had this last year while at Isle de Rey where it dropped from 4,000 miles to the countdown of doom.
I put in 7 litres of Adblu so the bastid obviously didn't have anywhere near 4,000 miles of Adblu before we started the trip...
...It maybe a slightly bent connecting rod caused by hydrolocking due to a leaking EGR cooler, this is a known issue.
My advice is to read the fault codes, monitor the coolant level / reservoir pressure and preferably get a Miller oil analysis to determine the state of engine wear and fuel dilution.
...of the dipstick (half way up is ideal), lying oil level sensors (can sometimes be addressed with a software update), and lastly genuine oil dilution (the least common scenario but it does happen.)
If the oil level wasn't actually high I wouldn't sweat it. Just check the oil level with the...
In all seriousness it's more like an onion bhaji smell and when you're hungry makes you want to eat the seat cushions.:geek:
Regarding the diesel being dumped into the sump it's worth bearing in mind the engine oil is being diluted so not safe to simply decant the resultant syrup as eventually...
I would agree but have a good drive today and unsure about driving it this low to fine the correct spec which I am unsure of also.was just worried about diluting new fluid
...a service I remove between 400 and 500 ml of oil through the dipstick tube to reduce it down to halfway. Initially I was worried about oil dilution so I sent a sample to Miller's for oil analysis, no worries from the results.
I'm lucky my van doesn't use oil, I'm sure it's just oil...
...or 0.5% which isn't.
I like the way they urge you to retest so they get another payday.
The overfill light is a common issue on these units and it is almost always not related to oil dilution - mine certainly wasn't. Make yourself a cuppa and do a forum search.
PS - my side windows don't...
Evening everyone.
For context, 2019 T6 Highline 150ps CXHA with Pendle stage 1 remap.
So in a previous post not too long after I got my T6 I was asking about what felt like turbo lag or extreme version of it. A battery change and OBDeleven later, I did some digging and it seems to be a lagging...
all diesel engines used for little mileage will dilute the oil in the sump with diesel. I would change oil every 6 months. However engine not up to temperature will not help with dpf. Starting euro 6 you ll have oil diluted in the sump, clogged dpf, egr failure due to not warming up enough the...
Just had a lot of work done and checked fluid level this morning and it’s low.
Would it be ok to top up this amount with deionised water?cambelt and pump just done can’t see a leak so assuming just air.
Just didn’t want to dilute it to much and of course the garage is closed today.
I bought new 71 cali came with reduce engine oil light on apparently software issue open bonnet close it was told this just resets it i believe this van has only covered 11700 miles so I have took to vw 4/5 times for this problem they have taken oil out of this van twice while under warranty...
Miller oil analysis, about £50, will give the fuel dilution and other contaminants in the oil. Data entered in the test info’ must be accurate.
Syringe and 1.5m of hose that will fit down the dipstick is needed to take the sample.
