Most reviews claim they are not great in the wet. I guess there are much better options for wet conditions.
I have a set 235/55 on 18” steels and have been really happy with them. I wanted something that would good on rough back roads but not too noisy on the motorway. Seem to tick all those...
I had the exact same on my T32 with those tyres and 44psi. Tyres lasted 8k. Fronts always looked low so wouldn't want to drop pressure any more. Van lowered too and correctly aligned. Never found an answer. Now running 235/55/18 at 41psi and hoping it doesn't happen again.
...sidewall, which gives a little more cushioning.

I've got 235/55/18 and am very happy with them, I know many people are happy with 255/45/18.
Hi Danny. I've just fitted some defender steelies to my t5 using the t5 bolts with the built-in washer, but the tyre fitter said they might not be the correct ones for the LR wheels. Which ones have you used?
Hi All,
A relative 'newbie' here....
Having bought my first (probably of many) T6.1 last year, and converted it to a camper (having sourced loads of great info from the forum) i've got a bit stuck in a tyre-sized wormhole over the past few weeks and would be really appreciative of a bit of...
Koni / H&R combo from CRS. Lowered about 60mm. Tyres are 235/55/18 on those wheels. I tend to run slightly larger tyres to close arch gap but retain ride comfort.
I have a similar set of 19in steels I was going to repaint etc but Im quite liking the chunky tyre look so 19's are for sale.
One more Q - is that spare 215/75/16 a standard OEM size? I don’t
hello again! So I was able to find load rated 205/75/16 tyres locally that are load rated. Do you know if that would fit the spare tyre carrier?
235/55 R18= 129mm sidewall
205/65 R16 = 133mm sidewall
255/35 R20 = 89mm sidewall.
I can see where the ‘contradiction’ idea comes from but it’s not as straightforward as saying “the 16 inch tyre has a bigger sidewall than the 18 inch”
That 4 mm is not going to make a difference.
The pressure...
Went all the way from 16” to 20”. Found the 235/55/18 being the best compromise with standard suspensions. And 255/45/18 best compromise with Koni shocks. I went from 16 to 18 245/55 and it was not pleasant in terms of comfort. 235/55 feels more similar to 16” 215/65.
After some experimentation I run mine at 42 on the same size boots. Thats a weighty full camper conversion with Eibach lift-restoring rear end, and seems to give a good compromise betwixt comfort and grip.
Of course, the tyres you have will be a factor, but 42 isn't a bad start point.
Quite possibly why the AA technician said 50 miles at max’ 50 MPH? Even then they were sticking their neck out, if something happened during that 50 miles they could be implicated.
...as a legal minimum requirement. T30 is 101, T32 is 103.
It seems like even your existing tyres aren't appropriately load rated for your van, which is a problem.
I'd just buy 4 new tyres and I'd go either 255/45/18 or 235/55/18 with the correct load rating.
There is plenty of choice in both sizes.
Cheers @PaulR83 its nice to know its not just my setup then! I am running 255/45/18. How are you finding the 55 profile, does it make the ride any softer over the 45?
