Van electrics upgrade - Shopping list sense check?

That's another really great suggestion actually...use the inverter to power all the 240v mains, all the time....then just use the EHU to power the charger and top up the Lithium battery again (or when driving, the DC-DC unit to recharge the Lithium)...Hmmmm.... I think I may be a little...

Direct charge from 240v hook up to Fogstar 105ah Lithium Battery

@RikParr73 I'll be honest I rarely run that Victron charger as driving and the solar mean it's almost redundant but when I blew the fuse after the Renogy combined B2B/ Mppt unit I can confirm the Victron gets warm and you do smell hot electronics during the latter part of the bulk charge cycle...

    Microwave or Grill?

And the moral of this story is….unless you’re prepared to invest huge amounts of money in Lithium & high end inverters. AND the associated copper that you’ll need to connect it all, running significant 240V loads from 12V batteries is a nonsense.

Gasless LWB Transporter & power set-up

Is a gasless LWB transporter with induction hobs, capable of being off-grid 5-6 days (running normal low wattage stuff plus appliances like hair dryer, toaster etc in the mornings with 250W solar on roof & 1+2 seating upfront) a task which is possible without a huge loss of storage space? e.g...

    Camper electrics

Depends entirely on what your usage will be. If you only ever stay on campsites with hookup, then you won't see the benefit of LiFePO4. But if you want to do any camping where there's no hookup, and potentially no or little solar, then even a basic set up with a fridge and some lights will...

    1000w Renogy inverter question

Cosori 2L mini 800w, it is fine for heating up a pasty etc, but being a low power will take longer to heat things up than a more powerful one, can’t remember slow cooker, but they are all low power, we have a double gas hob and also the EHU if we need it, so covered for many different types of...

    What Have You Bought Today?

Recently upgraded my leisure battery to lithium with a Renogy 1000w inverter with UPS function. Installed under the passenger seat and using an existing shunt monitor. Working great, huge improvement over the previous AGM battery. All was well in the world until I saw this which I didn’t need as...

Should I ditch the Sargent? Please help

    1. Biggest Lithium you can afford; 2. Decent B2B charger to replace the split relay; 3. MPPT solar controller to replace the Epever controller. Don't see why you need to replace the Sargent; yes it isn't perfect for mains charging the lithium but doesn't it also provide the 12v distribution and...

What Coffee Machine do you have in your van?

Test run of the new coffee set up for the van. Sledgehammer to crack a nut? But indeed it cracked nicely and the coffee was good! DC House 200ah lithium and Renogy 2000w inverter. Using the coulomb meter I measured 107 amps peak and 1.3kW for the Nespresso. Next steps… get a bunch of...

Lithium LifePo4 12v Batteries - Time For An Upgrade?

As you use EHU then a 105ah is more than sufficient. The Roamer is a good price with great feedback of their support. I have the Fogstar and it’s been brill and £299 is an excellent price as it’s normally £369. Mine has been faultless so I’ve had no need to use their support but they were very...

    E-MTB van

If we assume that both bikes charge in 4 hours (conservative given your 3-4 hour estimate), and that they are pulling 252w together (again, conservative as they're very unlikely to pull their full rated wattage throughout the charging cycle), then we can estimate their total capacity at 252W*4H...

[Guide] 12v/240v Power Inverters -- How I Done It --

Fwiw. The Renogy 1000w inverter guide shows a 150A supply fuse. And 4awg cable up to 3ft. So a 150A Midi or maxi fuse might be best. Suppose they are accounting for the increase in current due to the drop on voltage under load.? It's also worth noting the Renogy recommend 100Ah worth of...

Twin batteries under drivers seat ?

I agree, each to their own. But we have lithium & a 1600w Sterling inverter. I wouldn’t be without the Lithium battery, but in 6 years of having the van, we’ve only used the inverter once in anger. If I was doing another van build, I wouldn’t bother with the inverter.
