I'm curious, given trackers and dashcams are known power drains, why this isn't powered by the leisure battery?
Far better to be without leisure power than be stranded and unable to start the van?
Surely worth having an S5 tracker fitted, to save £100's a year in insurance costs, and peace of mind. Insurance companies will welcome you with open Bank accounts...
Chris did metatrak on mine (as well as a Ghost and thinkvue dashcam). No experience of the other. Works a treat. Get an OBD immobiliser, an engine immobiliser as well as a tracker. No complaints about the metatrak.
I'm currently paying £17 a month with Global Telemetrics, but Chris @Dav-Tec is the way to go with his MetaTrak. Just waiting for mine to pack up, but it seems quite happy!
...estates etc. It was on this forum that it was suggested that scumbags sometimes stash the vehicles somewhere in case there is a tracker.
Small chance of finding it but what else can be done? Either that or it is in a container on its way to some far away land. Suppose that it is bad if there...
Just got new insurance with Adrian flux, no tracker and a very reasonable price, ( trackers are relatively easy to negate if you have the right equipment and knowledge, immobiliser is better imo, but if someone is determined, nothing will stop a theft.)
How old is the battery that's in there?
Now you can see the drain have you double checked for any parasitic drains left on - I think you said you had a tracker?
Just working through insurance quotes at the moment, renewal with Just Kampers is out due to £950+ quote. Leader in the quotes so far is Howdens at £555, but require a S5 tracker installed.
...- you’d need a power connection unit for it too.
Not cheap and it needs a subscription which I think is around a tenner a month.
Have a look at their website if interested.
Not sure it’s the best tracker in terms of security though as it needs to be fixed in such a blatant and easy to reach spot.
In the end, I had a tracker fitted at the converter as I couldn’t get insurance cover without an approved tracker fitted and the converter would only allow access to their factory to an installer on their approved list. I therefore got a tracker fitted by a Global Telemetrics (GT) installer as...
Totally agree re: physical / visual deterrents.
But going back to trackers, presumably these blockers work on any GPS tracker, regardless of initial cost and ongoing subscriptions? Are "insurance approved" trackers as easy to block? If so, and bearing in mind that they are just another tool in...
Caravan Guard renewal quote £372 for my £40k T6 at 8000 UK miles inclusive of breakdown and acknowledging no tracker (S7 £40pa saving) and various mods.
The renewal quote is £40 increase on last year. Happy
more info needed me thinks.
so are you saying that the tracker has run the battery totally flat?
that's very possible, if the tracker is using to much power.
have you tried removing the tracker for a few weeks as a test?
..
how often is the van driven? and for hoe long?
got any pics?
AF included a £90 tracker ad part of the quote and wouldn't insure without it.
Paid £700 with no applicable NCB but they did recognise that I had 4 years I was using on my car
...I’d go for the gearstick lock mentioned in this thread Bear Lock
Seems like an easy to use solution.
Upgrading the alarm would be good.
Trackers are great but can easily be removed- several of our work vans have been stolen and the tracker is out within 20 minutes despite being a...
