My current battery (flooded) is knackered and I’m looking to replace with with either AGM or lithium. Lithium is obviously the better option but just trying to understand what work is in involved to achieve this.
My leisure battery is located under my driver seat, I have a Sargent EC155 unit...
I have the same set up as you banksey88, Sargent EC155, sterling B to B1230 and solar mppt. I changed over to a lithium battery before last summer. I changed the charging profile of the Sterling B to B and the mppt. I left the Sargent as it is . The lithium leisure battery charges up fine. I...
That Sargent unit is for lead acid so the Victron with the ability to charge lithium too makes more sense long term, especially if your present leisure battery has carked and whether a new, more efficient, lithium Black Friday bargain/Christmas present is in the mix.
Hi all,
I've just had to replace my leisure battery after 8 years of service and I went for a Fogstar Drift 105Ah lithium battery. I have a Victron Orion 18A DC-DC charger which I set the profile to LiFePO. I can see the Orion kicking in with input voltage at 14.4V and output at 14.2V in the...
Interesting setup, thanks for sharing. I have gone to the same Victron and next will be a lithium. I was completely unaware of issues with the Sargent and lithium. I guess you could hardwire a better / smarter charger into the Sargent and connect that to the lithium? I use the Ablemail AMT for B2B.

Well from what I understand, you need to keep the Sargent connections to the leisure battery regardless of using the charger or not, when I took the wire away from the LB the Sargent control panel did not operate.
On your Sargent you will likely have 3 mcb's in it for the 240v side. Are all 3...
My Sargent EC155 isn't charging the Fogstar Lithium battery. I've checked the 15amp charger fuse on the Sargent and all the switches are up on the breaker. Read another post on here that says probably easier to install a direct charge solution as, the charger function of the Sargent is...
I have sargent ec155 also, and upgraded to twin Agm 100a batteries. I pulled the sargent charging fuse and fitted a Sterling Dc Dc charger unit with Solar input. The Sterling unit allows to set battery profiles, agm, lithium etc. It also manages the Solar input and alternator charging. I use a...
I have a similar setup with a battery and victron b2b charger under the passenger seat and a victron MPPT under the drivers seat and a Sargent in the back. My AGM battery is now 6 years old and needs replacing, I wanted to go lithium as well as is almost the default now but was recommended to...
Double bubble! Upgraded to some actually downgraded batteries but doubled up, now have 2 x 110ah normal batteries instead of one 95 ah AGM (which wasn’t suitable for the Sargent either). Not as funky as lithium but should do the job needed at a fraction of the cost and now still have over double...
We have charged our AGM battery through the Sargent on EHU for 6 years, they took the charge no problem. We are getting 2 batteries fitted next week (one to replace the current battery under the passenger’s seat and one additional one under the drivers seat). Do you find the 2 AGMs give you...
Hi all
I've been running the Sargent EC155 for the last 5 years or so and it's done the job. I've just upgraded to a Lithium Fogstar battery from my lead acid LB and the Sargent now keeps alarming randomly for high voltage. I've not changed anything else and have read that the Sargent's don't...
There’s lots of threads on upgrading from lead to lithium.
I put up a thread when I did it and I still use the Sargent EC155
Use the search button on here.
It will answer all your questions

Hi
Newish to the forum (read loads) and had the van for a year or so now…
Current leisure battery very smelly (rotten eggs) and not holding charge (drops to 11.4v within an hour of being charged) so assume it is knackered. Am planning to add solar in due course so thought I might as well...
Thanks for reply.
I’ve now replaced the sterling B2B with a Victron Energy Orion XS 1400 50A DC-DC Battery Charger, replaced the lead acid battery with a Fogstar Drift 12V 105Ah Lithium Leisure Battery and wired up a
Victron Energy VE.Direct to Bluetooth Smart Dongle to the existing BMV 700...
I’ve started to install my power upgrade and thought I would post a thread on it which might be useful for others thinking of upgrading to lithium.
I would like to point out that I am far from an expert on this and as much as I am capable of doing the installation I am totally reliant on the...
Hi.
I'm using a Fogstar 105ah lithium set up. For the first time we're bypassing the Sargent system and on hook up using a victron IP65 Charger. All works with battery fully charged, but Mr Sunt says no with a big fat 0% reading. What am I doing wrong please? Thanks in advance.
Thanks CAB took me a while for the penny to drop that the Sargent not needed to charge, it’s an AGM at the moment, I don’t do much off-grid camping but when it needs replacing will go lithium.
the 100/75 mppt will be fine as its got a lithium profile.
the sargent has a fixed voltage output for the LB,. . . so can be used in the meantime, but wouldnt fully charge a lithium. - recoemended to swap out for a decent EHU battery charger . . like a Victron or a CTEK battery charger.
you...
