you sure its not a splitEGRpipe in the engine bay? (final exhaust fuses shouldnt smell very bad due to the cat and dpf)
but the EGRpipesplitting is a very common issue . . . and yours is a 2018 so prime candidate.
I've had mine done on bot 2018 and 2017 vans...
Recently the Caravelle 150PS 2015 T6 engine management light came on. Luckily my brother has a bodyshop and I put the van on his Autel machine.
Here I presume lies the problem
I also get exhaust fumes in the cab and my local garage has said there is a split in the concertina pipe which is...
Suspension / wobbly drive would be my guess as well.
But check for splitegrpipe although most report exhaust smell in the cab.
Heated windscreen was a pretty good guess as well, I don’t have one so don’t know how visible the grid is.
It's possibly a splitEGRpipe.

Have a read of some of these;

The EGR blanking plates could be placed at either end of the EGRpipes but it you want the best protection against a splitpipe they should be placed so that the pipes are isolated along with the EGR unit.
Hi.
Are to you sure it's not a boost leak somewhere or maybe the EGRpipe which is known to split? The symptoms are whistling but it can also create a diesel exhaust smell in the cabin as the gases are released in the engine bay. Just a thought.
I only have the 140 so a different turbo and...
Hi I had a splitegr rear pipe and my T6 was out of warranty I spoke directly to VW Head Office to explain the situation and to bring it to there attention that it was a safety issue as fumes where entering the Cab and I was really happy that they agreed to do it for free under warranty.
Had the front EGRpipesplit at the flange yesterday on me, managed to do a temp fix to get me home with some magic metal. But on removing today the end was absolutely covered in crap. Is this a normal amount to expect?
Oh and is there an easier way to get to the torx bolt on far side? It was...
Hi all, first time poster but quickly getting used to garage bills and reading this forum!
So I bought my 2016 T6 a few months ago. I discovered the rear egrpipe was split so replaced it. I then started to get an eml with the P2006 intake manifold runner control stuck closed bank 1A code.
I...
Start with the splitEGRpipe and go from there.
A common problem and easy fix for your local Indy.
Or diy if you like playing with spanners.
Then note, clear the codes and see what comes back.
Id imagine a EGR flush/replacement may be due if you haven't had it done yet?
Mine will do a regen when there is less than a quarter of a tank in. 2017 204.
I can only ever smell the regen if I’m outside the van-even when stationary.
Deffo check the egrpipes for a split.
Agree with Paul, let it regen if the fans are running after the engine has stopped you've interrupted the regeneration cycle.
Check the EGR hard pipe at the back of the engine. Common issue for them to split on the corrugated section near the flange that bolts onto the exhaust side
There are EGR two pipes that have a habit of splitting - one at the front and one at the back of the engine. There is also the flexi exhaust downpipe. It sounds like one of these are split from your description.
My van’s been in for investigation today about the ongoing coolant loss. A different garage has stuck a camera in the new EGR and found it contains water. There is apparently a service bulletin that requires some new modified bits when fitting an EGR or it risks over heating the EGR and...
Hey n10b, it’s been doing it since before I changed the EGR plus new reinforced pipe. I could smell it in the cab sometimes.
Now no more smell and CO meter shows reading of zero.
I don’t have heated windscreen.
It doesn’t handle badly but these stock shocks aren’t factory fresh with 145,000km...
