    CAAB long time to start

Just a thought but how old is your cambelt and has it been checked recently for wear/tension ? It could explain why there's no faults on Carista. I'm probably wrong but I have a Kombi the same age and the last belt change fixed a problem with occasional hunting whilst idling, apparently it had a...

    Young un"s first car.

It should have had 1 cambelt before VW changed the guidelines. Re tailgate - I just removed the 3 painted in bungs on the panel return and it now drains.

Big service quote, am I being ripped off?

???? I was charged over £200 for brake fluid change (T6.1 at a VW dealership). Thought cambelt looked a reasonable price. What the hell is a 'full service' if that doesn't include brakes/cambelt?

Cambelt & Waterpump cost, is this too high?

Mine is in next month for a cambelt and crank seal £500 but he does love cash

    Crank case oil seal

Give it all a good clean and you'll then see how bad it's leaking. It will need doing though as it will only get worse and as the cambelt need to come off you may as well get the changed at the same time.

    Euro 5 engine.

2016 EUR5 T6 with engine code CAAC on 172k. Only ever spent on oil changes on the engine. All the rest (brakes, clutch, tyres) seem to be decent and last too. Edit : precautionary cambelt at suggested interval by previous owner.

Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

I've had it happen to a family member, who was a suspicious sort and marked everything with UV pen before taking the car in to a franchised dealer. The company is no longer trading under that name so I would be happy to name them if the mods permit.

    Crank seal replacement

These are quite common to leak. People will normally get them replaced as preventative maintenance when doing the cambelt due to the close proximity when already stripped down

    Cam-belt change

I think the life span of a cambelt, water pump and tensioner is 4 years or 100,000 miles.
