I'mpretty sure that my cooler is blanked off. In case the old egr wasn't closing properly even when coded out.

I know your pain!! My diagnosed EGR failure turned out to be a leaking coolant pump. VW jump straight to EGR failure for coolant loss - feels like a good money spinner.

There is mention of a new EGR in the first post but chances are it may not be a genuine unit.

Interesting. Not an expert, but would you try to explain the science behind your thesis of EGR helping to produce better torque at lows? More intake pressure (while warmer and with less oxygen)? Or is it another internet myth?

Get another Pierburg egr cooler. they are cheaper. A common coolant leaking area for a CFCA is the coolant flange

Noticed my van has the EGR disabled with no warning lights. Can I simply plug it back in. I would have thought, it had been closed via software then unplugged to stop a further signal operating it again or am I completely wrong?

That’s a clean one, other than the coolant leak you got your moneys worth. At least on that type of EGR you can buy a new gasket.

it's good point. not yet. I checked here and there but it looks like the cooler will be provided with EGR valve packaging only and not stand alone, unless I take it as refurbished one. There are several options (and different prices) in the market to buy the EGR with cooler... I would avoid...

When I had my coolant loss issue it took VW 4 months to come to the conclusion that it was the coolant pump - this afternoon they had replaced the EGR!!! At considerable cost. After the EGR replacement the van went back to VW 3 more times with yet more coolant loss before they found the leaking...
