I assume your bike rack does not have its own lights? The VW towbar electrics detects trailer lights connected to determine if it deactivates rear parking sensors, so if you bike rack doesn't have lights it won't deactivate the parking sensors.

It can be done. Someone here way back cut some channels out of the underside of a spoiler so that it would fit over the bike rack. The rack goes on first, then the spoiler gets bonded over top, so if you want to take the rack off ... well, you know what needs to happen. I can't be bothered to...

My solution Adapted a genuine bike rack for extra storage as the dog crate etc take up loads of internal space :rolleyes: This large Terrafirma box fits the bill nicely on some old Thule bars I had from an old golf (I think)

Mine is the same! Can’t remember the make. They’re designed for cars with a boot lid which swings more upwards than outwards. You’d need to drop the rack by 90deg to clear the tailgate and that would have your bikes on the ground or underground even!
