Would you recommend a layer of MLV on the floor??

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on whether adding a Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) layer to the floor of a camper van conversion is really worth it. Does it make a significant difference in reducing road noise, or would something like dodo deadn duo pro by itself suffice?

I've noticed it's often mentioned as an option, but in many of the videos l've watched, people don't seem to include it. I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts or experiences on this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi.
The dense sound deadening sheets are designed to stop the larger flat metal panels from panting / vibrating. This is obviously a big driver for vibration and noise within a vehicle.

Surfaces such as the floor, which are purposely ribbed for strength are much less of an issue as the metal cannot flex and vibrate like a flat panel. The same goes for the ceiling (in a standard van) and any other surface where larger areas are reinforced by formed shapes or additional bracing.
This is why the OEM sound deadening (as sparse as it is) is generally just a small square, slapped in the middle of the unsupported side panels.

For me, the floor just needs heat insulation and maybe a thin layer of sound proofing, depending on the space available under the false floor.
