Are the carlinkit adapters the best units to buy for wireless carplay with Apple iPhone? Do they work with T6 headunit? I'm looking at the Carlinkit 5.0 2air and currently have an iPhone 12.

go for it, perfect setupI'm looking at the Carlinkit 5.0 2air and currently have an iPhone 12
That is a good call - my phone already gets hot under normal operation - any recommendation for an after market cooling charging pad?Just be careful of the phone getting hot, both wireless carplay or AA gets the phone hot as does wireless charging, both at the same time means more heat. There's a reason most new cars have cooled wireless charging pads now.
I didn't have to - have a 2019 T6 Kombi. Just plug it in and connect to it. It works good so far. Sometimes my headunit restarts itself but this only seems to happen when using Google Maps in carplay. Not sure if this issue is with the screen, the headunit or with carplay.Do you need to replace your OEM T6 screen to use these devices? Anyone used Ottocast mini 2025 for a 69 plate t6?
Google Maps works but on a longer journey I think it causes the headunit to restart itself due to a memory leak in the app. No proof of that other than on shorter journeys the headunit works fine & on longer journeys when not using Google Maps the headunit works normally. I'm using it with an Apple iPhone. The carlinkit device itself works good. Thanks, google maps was one app I’d be looking to use. Good to hear just plug in and go.
I own one of these (although using it in a transit custom) and a few cheapy aliexpress ones too and they are all the same, i could find little to no difference in performance, connectivity, function or heat generationDo you need to replace your OEM T6 screen to use these devices? To solve this I velcro'd one of the wireless chargers onto my phone holder and plugged that into the USB. Bit of cabling visible but it works. I'm on iPhone.I use some sort of wireless CarPlay adaptor which works fine in the van with the Discover Media unit, but I am not very good at keeping my phone charged so inevitably end up plugging it in anyway.
Out of interest, what happens when you plug the phone in when it’s connected via the dongle? Is there a conflict, or do you have to unplug the dongle?I use some sort of wireless CarPlay adaptor which works fine in the van with the Discover Media unit, but I am not very good at keeping my phone charged so inevitably end up plugging it in anyway.
mine does the same, screen freezes then head unit reboots, happens randomly and not often perhaps once a week. Not sure if it is the dongle or failing head unitGoogle Maps works but on a longer journey I think it causes the headunit to restart itself due to a memory leak in the app. No proof of that other than on shorter journeys the headunit works fine & on longer journeys when not using Google Maps the headunit works normally. You can't - it's one or the other as there's only 1 USB port in my T6Out of interest, what happens when you plug the phone in when it’s connected via the dongle? Is there a conflict, or do you have to unplug the dongle?
I did have a wireless charging phone holder, but given that the essential functions are on the CarPlay screen, I'd rather just stash it above the glovebox. I have no need to touch or look at the phoneTo solve this I velcro'd one of the wireless chargers onto my phone holder and plugged that into the USB. Bit of cabling visible but it works.
