Wind over solar?

Hi,

I bought a diesel heater for my Shuttle and have seen they sell 12Volt 300W wind turbines also.

I was considering buying a couple of 100W solar PVs but considering I live in Scotland I figured wind might be a more definite bet?

Anyone bought a wind turbine to top up their leisure battery?

I bought a cheapy on EBay - 100W generator.
It works, but let’s just say that there’s a hell of a lot of momentum and sideways force involved when it gets spinning. It would need strapping very securely to the side of a van for it to stay in place, and I wouldn’t get close when it was spinning fast

How far north? I'm in Dingwall and 100w easily keeps it topped up when not using it except for maybe 2-3 weeks either side of the shortest day.

I'm in Fife. Good to know though, thanks for confirming we can charge in Scotland.

Also I wasn't considering attaching it to my van, but rather mounting it on a short telescopic mast, and using guys to secure it.

Apologies, thats a 100w solar I was referring to. Wind will have similar variations but less predictable ?

I have one on my garage servicing outside lighting, it does resonate/hum as the mast is bolted to the gable block wall. But does the job in winter. Mobile, I’m not sure how you going to restrain it. Mine was sold as 300w with 1,2m rotor, I have seen 140-150w at 5-6m/s winds.

I reckon it could work in the UK as we get more wind than sun!
