Hello, Help! My dear wife pinched the car to see her friend yesterday in the torrential rain.. This morning I found that the underneath of the van has had a slight mishap! See pics. Does any see how many bits Im going to need to order to get this tidy again? I can get some wheel ramps off a friend and so will have a crack myself. I think there might be a while panel missing in the middle? any advise or an idea of which bits much appreciated. Gaffer tape isn't going to cut the mustard!

common thing. . . stay away from puddles !!!!

its not big or cleaver and you will smash the under trays. . . lol, nevermind.

you will need to see if you can re-attach the fixingings.

the cover is busted you will need a new one, and they not cheap.

i had one fitted when i had the derv heater fitted.

While the undertrays on the VW vans are reasonable quality compared with my Audi Q3, on the Audi it is recommended to add mudflap washers to to undertray fixings to provide leaa chance of them being ripped off when going through puddles.

Maybe a good idea on the vans as well?

Thanks for that.. only useful bit of advice so far! I think Its just the ad blue under tray thats needed.. Just looking for the best price.

I'd cobble it back together with cable ties for the time being. After a few weeks you will have forgotten about it. You'll be remined again when it comes to servicing time, so if you want to, do the job properly then.

Same thing happened to us in our Cali 6.1 when we hit a big puddle at speed on a secondary road… ripped off two plastic pieces under the car at a cost from vw of about £400!!! Looked into upgrading to after market steel ones but it’s even more prohibitively expensive.

Their have been comments on this forum about Transporter under-trays being damaged or ripped off when traversing large puddles at speed while other smaller vehicles just pass through seemingly unaffected. At one time during very heavy rains, a little time ago not too far back, when one of my wheel arch liners became loosened, shed a screw resulting in contact with the tyre on full or near full lock. I had avoided all large puddles or just crawled through them but got caught out! At other times it was unaffected. While having a service I had it rectified. Initially my IND VAG guy felt it might have been down to my larger tyres 255/55R18 BFG AT KO2 but it did not rub before or since rectification even at full articulation off road.

I think that the suggestion of fitting washers (mud flap washers) seems a very good or excellent idea, maybe I should look into that. Probably in reality I should have some armour under the vital parts in any case. I have always felt due to my off road driving style that that was unnecessary because I tend to drive far slower and with good care off road and take most objects with stealth and easing over objects with minimum throttle, diff lock engaged, so just ease over and any contact then tends to be very soft. I do hit the loud peddle on some occasions such on long and slippery wet grass steep slopes during the winter months but usually they have no areas of contact or great concern other than getting out of line. I might consider armour but have also held back due to so many manufacturers provide it and one deciding what is best/ good value and buying just an under tray with thoughts of extending the armour which then might mean buying all from the same manufacturer perhaps.
