Interesting you should say that as i thought it might be this. My pump is very noisy, to say the least
But yeah please keep me posted! cheers

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I still have the noise but the garage I took it to said they could not isolate which part was making the noise.. which sucks as I want to get it fixed under warranty. Maybe I’ll pickup a second hand one from eBay and see if it is that part. If you don’t mind me asking , how much did it cost , ball park figure is fine,

Thanks
Daniel
Surely if it’s under warranty, it’s down to the garage to isolate the problem & fix it under warranty.

Ye mate trouble os I bought offline and the dealer is in Newcastle and I'm in Manchester so have been going through warranty with local vw van specialist.

So I mentioned it to them they clear all the faults, then said no new faults are coming up. So I couldn’t really argue with them but there is a blatant noise. Maybe I will book in with them and get them to look at it.

try another VW dealer.... a noise wont register or highlight on a computer screen.

Forgive me if you've already tried this but, you can actually use a long screwdriver as a sort of stethoscope. Simply put the pointy end on the alternator, water pump, pulley housings etc, then put the handle to your ear and you should be able to hear which part is screaming. It's a bit basic but can be effective in locating various worn out mechanically moving parts.

Ideal is one of the ones used for releasing bottom radiator hose clamps. They're about a 2 feet long.

Hi

I paid £450, that was for having my existing alternator re-manufactured and refitted. No noises at all now and runs great, much smoother.

That was at a local ‘VW specialist’ who I use for servicing.

Great to hear you fixed it, not a bad price either

Sounds very similar to yours
Yeah definitely a bearing , just which one is the question.. could prove expensive to start switching out parts with out knowing. Need to find another good vw specialist in bristol

Yeah, I was OK with the price. I was quoted £850 by my local VW dealer to replace and fit a new VW alternator. I just thought I’d give this option a go and hope it lasts! As you say, sounds like a bad bearing. Still, very poor for a 5 year old/ 50k van

Yeah for sure, I am slightly surprised myself to be honest.. but I’ve only had it for 3 months so maybe early life wasn’t great for it. But I’m in for the long haul and will just put things right. At least I will know it through and through. Cheers
