Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

easy drive from Rotterdam to Puttgarden in Germany today, camping out at the port before catching 45 minute ferry to Denmark and then across the bridge into Sweden.
Also brought a Toblarone from the worlds biggest duty free shop..View attachment 316905
If you go past Ljungby there is the Cliff Burton (Metalica bassist) Museum next to the main road. I was stopping for Diesel when we found it, also a large tourist tutt shop and fishing tackle shop. Quite random really!

Visiting a VW garage halfway up Sweden, having van Issues today, luckily the garage was only 30 km from when van went into limp mode, - it’s sunny and -17 today
Update- the turbo had froze, from condensation overnight, it was -17 before we went to sleep, we were told it’s a common issue when it gets really cold, van now running, we were told to use radiator engine cover to help keep things from freezing, so glad we made one before we left, didn’t think we would need to use it though, you don’t see locals using them?
Anyway the journey continues north,
VW Sweden didn’t charge us for their time, about 1hour, amazing service and help and coffee

Made it to Lulea today, at top of Sweden, booked into a campsite tonight, £25, inc electric, and clean, warm facilities, found a off grid house, might put an offer in.
Parked up next to a tiny motorhome tooView attachment 317161View attachment 317162

If it was summer, I would recommend hiking in the Skuleskogen National Park on the High Coast. A most underrated and amazingly scenic area, but one to avoid hiking, in anything other than good weather.

We are going for a hike in Finland next week, found a cabin in a forest that is free to use, has a wood stove, so will stay overnight, will test out our Amazon snow shoes, it’s about 4km, unless we get lost

And of course it may have a Sauna. If so get it as hot as is possible 80oC minimum, and then a quick roll in the snow. It's a rite of passage, although I won't do it a second time!!!

And just in case you haven't been told, you may have to share it with others.

Not today but yesterday, we did the 140 odd mile round trip to the NEC Camping and Caravan Show - that's a day. I'll never get back. Although I had money burning a hole in my pocket, I suspect that after nearly 7 years owning the van, there's not much left that we really need for it so we walked around the whole place and came home having only bought a steel Cadac Coffee Pot Stand (The Coffee Pot Stand for Cadac Dometic barbecues) for the grand total of £4 . Didn't even bother looking at many vans or motorhomes as we've seen most of them (or similar) before. Maybe it's my imagination but the show seemed much smaller than the last time we went (September 22 or 23) and there also seemed to be a lot more non-camping type tat on sale and charity stalls.. On the plus side, both the drive there and back went off without any delays so the van had a good run out (mostly at 75 MPH) and we didn't see any dash warnings - I'll take small wins wherever I can find them.

@Rayza. A roll in the snow is for wimps. The last time I was in Finland, we had the sauna and then jumped into a lake through the [pre-broken] ice. After a very hot sauna, it's amazing how long it takes to really feel the cold after submersion. Mind you, it was a long time ago and my much younger heart was probably stronger than it is now - not sure I'd risk it in my 70s!

I am a wimp 1st Class. My family tell me that the water in a local swimming pond ( Porolampi) Reindeer pond, is almost at the same temperature winter and summer, and whilst I am happy swimming in the summer, no way that I am doing it in winter. And I am close to 70, so thanks for your advice.
