Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

You also need to take a drive down to Oban from Fort William through the mountains or along the coast road, both fantastic drives.

We love the drive up Torridon, beautiful!

Another of our favourites is Fort William to Arisaig and also Laide around Little Loch Broom then pick up the A835 via Loch Glascarnoch down to the A9 and over to Fortrose.

Scotland, for us, is stunning no matter where..

Hi. My pals dad owns at campsite in monifieth that’s just outside Dundee on the beach. It’s a cracking beach with good walks along to Barry Buddon a live army training ground.
Monifieth is a nice wee village but not as nice as Broughty Ferry for shops and pubs. The Ferry is lovely with a beautiful beach with a castle on it. Plenty great pubs and shops. The Ferry is attached to Dundee east side and monifieth is attached to the Ferry.
If you are travelling north up the east coast I’ve got some great places to visit with either free camping or sites. I can send you up a couple different glens with waterfalls and great walks.
I can advise you on pitches on Skye if you go too.
When is your trip ? I could have a look for free pitches in the Ferry when I get home this weekend. I know great spots but would need to check the signs at them to see if you can stay overnight. It’s not something I’ve paid attention to with living there.
That would be brilliant cheers!
I am looking at the w/c 21/07 or w/c 11/08.
I could always start from Fort William and work over towards Dundee then come down the east coast to finish.
Any recommendations and advice is much appreciated 👍

I’m back for a couple days on the 21st. I will check out pitches in the Ferry before then for you
I will pm you information between now and then on everything when I get the chance. I’m on holidays so will have time.

Only to work, at my local office about 9 miles each way. The only thing I enjoy about office working is the trip in the van! 😎

Had a bit of a problem with the 3-way fridge in the va
Absorption fridges work by heating the refrigerant in the coolant circuit and then letting it condense to work the cooling cycle.

So if the fridge is running on mains the refrigerant side is working. It will probably be working on 12v too, though the power limitations on 12v generally means it will only hold temperature rather than actively cool.

So the issue likely lies on the gas supply side, do a few checks at home to make sure there is a good gas supply.

The arrangement is normally a small "boiler" can with a central chimney for the gas flame and then the 240v, 12v heating wires and refrigerant pipes embedded in rockwool wound around the central chimney inside the can.

Thank you. Never understood how a gas flame can refrigerate anything. I have got the guys at Leisuredrive looking into it at the moment so hopefully will be resolved.

Seathwaite campsite in the Lake District over the weekend as per earlier post. Walked the Corridor Route up to Scafell Pike. Not the best views at the top.View attachment 293848View attachment 293849View attachment 293850
It has been quite a while since I have been on the forum for one reason or another.

The blue van is mine. Good setup with Simon's canopy and my awning. Good weekend away.

@Nige_g Not sure if you've been there before but we left there yesterday to come up to here in Royat by the Puy de Dome so in order of importance...
The bus timetable (1Euro single) as it's a good couple of Kms into town and there's stone walls and no path either side of the narrow road, lethal.

Picks you up at the camp entrance
Menu if you eat there, we mostly forage in the nearest mid size supermarket on day one.

Notre Dame, by the bus stop in Lourdes...

Excellent bogs, showers and those wash basin cubicles with a lockable door so you don't have to shave three to a mirror, might pay to pre load your pocket with some bog roll though if you don't want to play nocturnal toilet roulette.
We were supposed to have an EHU but as I posted earlier on this thread with pics their skts were batty and not like a Euro 16A so 2 1/2 weeks in we're managing nicely off grid.
Our best day out as I'm not particularly religious was a trip up the Pic de Jer funicular railway 13.50 Euro return, runs every 20 minutes but epic views from the top and a cafe that serves ice cold Estrella and solid truck driver food, Becky our server was a lovely gal, originally from Launceston, Cornwall so could understand my French quite well.🤪

Thanks for that. I was hoping we could walk into town, maybe not. Sure the wife will be happier with the bus!

Is that EHU socket one to plug a normal EU plug into (the sort you get inside buildings)? As some have a hole in the top.

If so, I carry one anyway, as I have been to a French site where we needed one of these adapters. I stayed on a site in Luxembourg, where their sockets were different but at least they supplied adapters for a deposit.

I drove up to the top of Puy de Dome in 1991 (I believe you cannot drive yourself up there anymore). I was in a Renault 5 GT Turbo. I heard that they were prone to clutch cable breakage, so took a spare with me. Just as I pulled into the car park on top, my cable snapped, so there I was replacing it in the car park. Thank f**k it didn't snap on the road going up!

You're alright when a clutch cable snaps apart from the drive being on or off with no ability to feather the clutch, I had the pressure plate snap on a Cortina years ago and you just sit there like a plonker revving the engine feeding in the power and not moving.
Apparently there's an off road walk down to the town via a lockable gate, you get the key from reception with a 20 Euro returnable deposit but it was 37C and as you can see the topography a bit either up or down so it was the bus for us lightweights but be aware while there's regular slots in the morning that last bus near 6:00pm is the next one after lunchtime and is packed with ignorant cheese eating 🤫 Camping La Forete refugees and they'll force their way past us softy English 🤕 to get a seat.
We didn't use the small to medium size pool as they stipulated budgie smugglers only for the men and as I've always suffered "acorn syndrome" in cold weather let alone watery Baywatch reenactments so I just lounged artistically in my drawstring leg board shorts.
Funnily enough I left my identical to your linked adaptor at home, the wife literally interrogated me until I confessed, it was cheaper than a divorce but as an ex sparky I would have sworn the earth pin wasn't fixed and sticking out from the skt outlet... it doesn't get any easier... 🥸
Second edit and the plug pictures are on post #12,393 hopefully
