Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Keep your eyes open for the resident Ospreys
I spent a night on a private fishing beat on the south esk.
I took my old boy. He’s 85 this year and loves nature and showed interest in coming away in the camper with the boys.
The fishing was terrible as our rivers still have very little water in them but we seen an osprey really close up. It was sitting on a branch opposite side of the river from us.
We also saw a kingfisher, woodpecker, sparrow hawk and lots of sand martins.
My dog Wooly upset this strange looking grey wagtail that was ripping about the banks. It trigger her chase instincts and off she went after it.
The deer were within a few feet of us also.
Had a nice bbq and a few beers, fished until dark and stayed over.
My dad was out cold until 9am.

There was a run of sea trout came through earlier in the week. My pals had the beat for the week and they had a few around 3lb. Not a sign of any salmon though.
But the water had dropped back by Thursday (my day) and there were not many left about.
We fished into the dark targeting sea trout specifically but it was bloody cold at night still and only seen a couple fish move.
Very disappointing.
Hopefully have more luck on the Spey end of the month.

If you can cope with walking a steep section of road, there is a free car park in the woods 0.5 mile away from the paying one. Too late for you sadly, but it might help someone else planning a trip.

Yeah that’s the one we stayed in overnight but the midges were absolutely horrendous…some bigger than the van. 😂

Its all a learning experience. Seatrout are the most unpredictable species in a river. But when you get the timing right, you never forget it.

After catching up with the Orca at Cairnbulg and St Combs we spent last night on the harbour at Gardenstown.

It’s not really acceptable to park on this street but this is outside wife’s uncle’s holiday house so no one to complain lol.DSC01466.webp
Edit, quick Orca pic from Cairnbulg. There were 9 close in including 2 calves. I forgot to bring my MacBook so just a quick crop sent to the phone.

We did look at Brow Farm as an option but with the rain forecast took the chance of a hardstand at The Green.
You can have a fire at Bow farm ,and a short walk along the stream to the Bridges pub , they do super good food there . Its never boggy there lots of pitches to choose from some level some on the hill .

Decided to pop up to the Epynt Mountains last night to support the local running club in their Welsh Castles relay 2025. Drovers is the toughest stage of the lot but the views on top are epic. So a nice Welsh stake for food last night followed by a welsh breakfast

Do you have some designs of the ‘table’ you are using in the second photo please?

After an afternoon train through the tunnel where we arrived over 2 hours early due too an easy drive but still had to catch the 1424 hrs that we booked, we headed straight for La Bien Assise on the outskirts of Guines and about 25 minutes from the Calais terminal - didn't bother with pictures as I know the place is very familiar to a lot on here and was IMHO a bit pricey at £29 ACSI but it is very convenient for Calais . Yesterday morning we set off for Fresnay sur Sarthe and Camping Sans Souci which is a nice site well situated on the banks of the river - €24 non-ACSI. Again, didn't bother with any pictures of the pitch as it was just another van surrounded hedges. We went for a walk around the typically smallish typical French town at about 1600 hrs and saw maybe 6 people the whole time. Today we're at Camping L'Orangerie Beauregard just short of Tours which is a beautiful chateau site surrounded by forests (their own grounds) at €30 non ACSI price. Depending on how tonight goes, we're probably heading for Ile d'Oleron tomorrow and will hopefully start picking up the ACSI bargains. After that it's still TBA but will deffo include Sout of France at some point.
