What is you favourite thing about your T6?

I don't know why it occurred to me but I decided while tidying the house (5am on a morning while the kids are with the in-laws, what a glamorous life), what is it I like best about MY T6?

Everyone will have different things, the high sitting position, the practicality, their wheels etc.

I started going through it in my head. Was it a single feature, was it the community/scene, is it something I've added or something it does differently to my cars?

Then it hit me. In the past I've had nice cars, I've had average cars that I've made look good and I've had fast cars.
I've always had compliments from friends and strangers so nothing is new there.

What is different this time is the confused look some people give it when they like it.

A good example is yesterday. I chap that lives along from us is always passing to and from the golf course, always says hello.

He popped past and said "I like your van" but then had a confused look. Like he was thinking "I like a van?"

He stopped and started asking about it, is it a work van, is it a people carrier, is it a camper?
Yes, yes, yes.

"Dam" he says, I should have had one of these 30 years ago". Off he trotted but later his wife was passing (plays golf in the afternoons) and says hello and "so this is the van my husband has just been googling" then "oh, it is quite nice, do they do them in blue"

Really made me smile to think that once people get a real look at these something sparks in them.

My girls both go to a school where it's the norm to own either a Range Rover or a Porsche Cayenne, and in normal day to day life, these are some of the cars many people would want if money was within reason, no object, but they are normal at our school and don't actually stand out at all.
My daughters used get out of the previous van (Vivaro) with screwed up embarrassed faces when their friends were around. No idea why, I thought my Vivaro looked pretty nice for a work van.

Anyway, since buying the T6, i've had 3 different parents that i've never spoken to, ask about it, and the headmaster come up to me and say "I'm not really a car person, but I love this van"

So for me, it's the obvious aesthetics of such a high end vehicle, that I can use for my business, school run, shopping, going to Ikea and knowing it will fit in the back, and most importantly, I can get either 4 road bikes, or 4 mountain bikes in the back without them getting scratched. So i'm mate number 1 when we go out cycling.

I handed my car back March of this year, end of the PCP. I was going to order another car same as I have had for years and years, yes nice full of fancy extras but still same old thing. Been a VW owner for years, wife drives beetle, and as all my family and friends will confirm always wanted VW Van. Order mine mid Aug hoping to pick it up next week.

I used to be in the air-cooled scene in my younger days, and owned several, including a 71 Bay, and I used to love the way a total stranger with an air-cooled would just spark up a conversation, or wave as they drove past.
I've noticed it's the same with these things, but there seems to be that trepidation as you drive towards a Transporter owner, will they wave, will they flash??? Most of the time it's a finger just raised off the steering wheel, just incase the other person thinks you are nuts.. then you can pretend nothing to see here!
Love it

I'm still driving a panel van waiting for my conversion date. A few vans in my local village will wave as they know me but on the open road i struggle to get anything back.
Even as a panel van I've had a few quotes of approval.
I could have bought a lesser van for half the money with more spec but in reality I knew I wouldn't be happy unless it was a VW.

Yeah our first car was air cooled beetle and we were always getting the wave. We go to the VW show at Tattan Park every year, it's full of VW nuts lol I think I am abit of a fan but wow some take it to the next level.

I like the huge choice of after market options. There are options for everything.

A T6 owner can do as much or as little as they like/can themselves or there is a myriad of excellent companies out there that specialise in these vans in particular.

I love the versatility of the van: it is what they were designed for after WWII. They were meant to be multi purpose, multi set-up personal/business vehicles and, for me, they still are. I’ve owned a few from much older models to the new variant, but I love the new shape... The front styling just makes me drool.

I also love the individuality they bring out in people; every vehicle is different in tiny ways that make them so much more interesting than cars. Maybe it’s because you have a bigger canvas? Maybe it’s because of the brand/variant history? Maybe it’s just because they attract a different breed of person? Whatever it is, you certainly Get more looks in a nice van!

I don't think I can manage to pick just one thing ... here are a few:

The heater!
The fact that it can sleep a family of 4.
Just driving it :)
It looks awesome ... especially with its big alloys and lowered suspension ;)

People just notice a VW van more !.
My main work van is a new shape Vivaro. Its comfortable to drive, cheap to buy and does 10mpg more than my T6, BUT who gives a toss about a Vauxhall van ?. NO BODY !!!.
The Transporters are well built, look great and really hold thier value.
I particularly like the, ' full fat ', look of 20" alloys, lowered, side bars, front and rear spolers and roof rails, but then I am a boy racer at heart.
I like the fact that there is a place for everyone and thier individual tastes within Transporter ownership. It is something that no other commercial vehicle brand has been able to replicate.
What I like the most about my van is the smile it puts on my face every time I drive it.

I purchased a "Panel Van" this time last year, even as a van I was getting people come up to me asking if I was going to convert, I did, it look fab, not quite finished as I need some wheels, but all in all, people like what they see, its an everyday vehicle that is a little out of the ordinary.

My Vivaro got quite a few comments and it served my business pretty well.

I can’t say it is one particular thing, been a VW enthusiast for as long as I can remember, aircooled and water cooled, my son and daughter are VW owners too, my daily is a Mk4 .:R32 and I have a Mk1 Golf gti project on the go where I will do a 2.8vr6 swap, only ever been to one VW meet when I had the T2 which I did enjoy, I like the forums for the exchange of info and ideas, and meeting someone who is a VW fan always ends up in a great conversation

I think this thread proves a key quality of the Transporter. It ticks many boxes for many people. For those who do big mods, theres plenty of options to personalise it and make it your own.

However, for my own personal preferences, I think I'll stay more or less to the original styling with just a few small and subtle enhancements. The personalisation will come in the form of the interior camper conversion.

For me the T6 is, for a van, classy, yet classless. It has heritage, yet modernity. It has flaws and imperfections but we seem to forgive these because we get seduced by its character and associated lifestyle. You dont have to be a mod god to be part of the 'Scene'. Its a broad brush and just by being on this forum, your pretty much signing up to it in one form or another. Just being an enthusiast and having an interest in the vehicle is enough. We all have different tastes, objectives and opinions. But what the majority of us on here have in common, is that one way or another, the Transporters got us hooked. At the end of the day, its your van, so do it your way. Its all part of the fun...... (and expense).

I have a converted Van, Carpeted walls, lowish powered 102PS, however, when I go camping as I do often in it, with the grandkids, down to Spain , France , Scotland, or within the confines of England, it pulls well, even when it has the 5.2m Rib on the back. so therefore I don't actually agree with it.

I sat in my mates T6 Cali in July, you know what I found it to be a little too plastic and sterile, but then again, that is only an opinion, I am so glad we are not all the same.

I love just about everything with my van (standard spec Highline 150 DSG with carpet walled conversion! :) ). I really love the Eberspacher heater to keep us toasty warm year round and the decent sized fridge to provide us with plenty of ice-cold beer. Fridge also came in handy for a trip to Costco at the weekend - bought some frozen and chilled foods and was able to get it all in the fridge which meant we could visit the nearby Go Outdoors and Leekes without the need to go home in between!
