What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

It's great, the guys at Combe Valley campers installed it really well. The awning quality and light strip are fantastic.

I'd haven't taken many photos with it up unfortunately but attaching a couple incase it helps. I think it would fit even better on a SWB, it's perhaps a little short for my LWB.

Thank you. It looks great. I really like Leigh and Combe Valley Campers. It was his channel that talked my into buying a van and starting out on the road to converting a Kombi to a camper.

cam belt change (with waterpump)View attachment 320188,
not so easy to get the perfect timing, to get all timing tools in place with the right tension of the tensioner, the whole process took me the saturday....
old parts were all in good condition after 195000 km

and here another detail, filling the cooling system after water pump change with my special vacuum machine, which I bought years ago for carbon workings (at my carbon bike and surf stuff). Makes vacuum in 20 seconds to fill the whole system. And then using VCDS to bleed the system completely.:)

when is your Scotland trip, we go next month so should be midge free
planning several trips with the first in April to Skye and Mull but a couple of others when the midges are more active. Where for you? Can recommend Tyndrum as a good stop over and Salen as a base for Mull

We had planned to do the NC500 starting out from Kenmore on the 22nd of April where we’d already booked a weeks holiday. Unfortunately, due to my work colleague being off work, we’re having to postpone the road trip element for another time. 😕

After finally getting my smartbed installed a few weeks ago, I've picked up my upholstery yesterday too. Wasn't too tricky to attach. The guys as Smartbeds even gave me the plywood threaded rivets and nuts. Well chuffed... we can finally take passengers as well. Still got the bottom drawer unit/doors to fit to finish it off, job for another day.

Put SB50 connectors in-between DC isolator and the MPPT. Chopped the mc4 connectors off a short PV cable and made a SB50 fly lead for my portable Renogy so I can use either the PV on poptop roof or portable setup to charge leisure battery.

Snap, i've done something similar. No PV on the roof yet but I do have an Ecoflow 160W portable panel that I got with my River 2 Pro. Here's me testing it last week. The MPPT has since been installed on top of the cupboards so I can easily connect up the portable panel with the XT60 connector if need be

correction of timing belt tension,
I had recently changed the timing belt, but was not completely satisfied with the result. The pointer of the tensioner pulley was not positioned correctly, was probably a bit too tight. And the pointer moved relatively strongly when the engine was running, an indication that there are different tensions in the belt. So today I removed the crankshaft pulley again, fixed the camshaft, crankshaft and high-pressure pump with the tools, loosened the nuts on the crankshaft sprocket and pump wheel, corrected the preload of the tensioner pulley. Tighten the nuts on the crankshaft and pump little bit, spin the engine by hand and check the timings. Everything was great. Tighten the nuts with the prescribed torque and spin and check timings again. Reassembled everything, now the pointer of the tensioner pulley is correct and also no more moving when the engine is running.

I took it for an MOT. Passed without any issues. Still got the engine light on the dash. Apparently the EGR and Air Mass Flow are reading ok so there’s nothing serious. I’m told that it might be that the EGR needs cleaning or replacing. If it’s coming out to get cleaned I’ll go with replacing it. I don’t like dash lights on.

I have always thought an engine warning light was an MOT fail.
