What Car for my 19yr old?

He should get something fun and impractical while he's young. Alfa Spider or something like that. The Volvo can wait a decade.
He actually wants a volvo... he's my step-son so I take comfort in that.
My youngest, 16, is saving for a car.

I dunno. My 340 horse T5 is impractical and hilarious fun, and unlike an Alfail it'll actually complete a journey.
Good luck running a Volvo of any kind on a student budget though. If you think T6's drain your bank balance you ain't seen nuthin' yet!
My first (unofficial car) was a Nissan micra, my dad's. Itt was great fun...5 doors, 1.0 16v engine and was an absolute curtain twitcher.....mainly because people thought I was the pizza delivery guy

I had a go in one of these, and met Clive, when they first came out. This brings back memories! Happy days.
We're 'helping him' with his insurance but he will be paying the most. The S40 he wants is a reasonable cost, not crazy as such.
The ins shoots up on a C30 - too hot hatchy. The S40 is essentially a ford focus with volvo refinement but such that the 1.6 petrol is quite low insurance.
I know that feeling. I think most parents probably do. Glad to see you’re letting him pay the lions share though.

not Volvo but I keep an eye on that website with the idea of one day buying a Saab estate/saloon to save having to use the van daily and to make life easier for city / airport parking
they occasionally auction off stock on ebay so there are deals to be had.
