I just googled some images of drink/drive test kits…..I don’t think he is kidding you!

Yep, it's a drager breath test tube....usually left with the customer for disposal. Can't think of an alternative use, can you @JOG ?
(Bites knuckles)

When I was tested I was given a tube like that.
(I passed - it was 8am in the morning)

Lots of people fail in the morning (after the night before). Typically, alcohol takes an hour per unit to exit your system. The mother in law used to be a magistrate and went on some training about the topic.

The other thing I found out from her is that there are quite a few drivers still driving legitimately with well in excess of 12 points on their licence. Has to be an extremely good reason eg disabled child and only driver in the family

Am I in a minority as I have never been breath tested, I’ve driven for 47 years and average 40 000 to 55 000 miles per annum?

I’ve not been either. Driving for 40 years. Not the same level of mileage though. I’ve always worked on the principle that I won’t have a drink if I’m driving and if I then change my mind I’ll get a taxi even if it costs me £50 to get home.

Had a “friendly local bobby” rear-end me. Crumpled his bumper without even scratching mine yet he called the police out. Cautioned and breathalysed - I passed. A few plausibly deniable errors in the process etc, etc. Naturally, I put the attending copper back in his box and went on my merry way. I was regularly pulled over and breathalysed for about six month after that. (I decided then to “have
a word” in the right ear and magically it stopped!)

To this day I don't know why I was breathalysed, unless it was a standard thing they did. A child ran out in front of me, and she got knocked over. Entirely her fault (her parents even apologised), and she was fine. But the police still felt I should be breathalysed.
I can't drink enough to still be pissed in the morning - I would have thrown it all up ages before then.

Standard procedure usually for an injury RTC. Breathalyse all drivers. The power is there to do it and it prevents accusations later down the line.

Standard procedure, child was impacted by your vehicle, Police must breath test you, even though you were not at fault. If the Officer had not breath tested you they'd be in the sh1t.
Edit; like e said!
