What’s my Kombi worth?

Hi All,

I understand this is a very subjective question but wanted to see if anybody could point me in the right direction in order to find out a rough guide.

I will be ordering a T6 in the next couple of weeks and when this arrives I will be looking to sell my 2007 T5 Kombi this is a T30 DSG, it will have done around 135/140,000 miles by this time, it has been used as a work van and is racked out accordingly, it has twin electric sliding doors, remote auxiliary heater, sunroof, heated seats, electric folding mirrors, cruise control, unglazed barn doors and a full service history.

So in summary, any ideas of a rough price and also best place to sell as never sold privately before.

Cheers

It isn't DSG - it is tiptronic autobox in the T5. DSG arrived in 2010 on the T5.1

Classified advert on fleabay for fifteen quid. Depends on condition and service history but someone will want it because of the spec. I reckon between 7 and 10k if it is in good shape. Try webuyanycar and then stick another 2k on the price.

So was contemplating a change from my kombi to a caravelle and had some quotes from the local dealer for some final run out stock t6.
They have come back with a price of £21000 gross as a trade in which seems low to me.
Van is a 66 plate black factory kombi 150 dsg highline.with twin electric sliders, 2+1 rear seats, led lights,
30mm eibachs, rear spoiler,
removable towbar,
fvwsh 35,000miles
as well as extended factory warranty for another 2 years, 1 owner.
I know people will say go check ebay autotrader etc but would be interested on thoughts from people who may have recently been looking.

Seems about right but there's a lot of factors which determine price.

Used values traditionally come under pressure during November as dealers don't want to carry unsold stock over the Christmas period. However, they'll begin to firm up during the first couple of months into the new year as dealers try and get sufficient stocks to meet the traditional seasonal increase in demand during March (Off the back of the new reg plate). It's known as the seasonal effect.

The used value a dealer offers you is an indication of how much he actually wants your vehicle. If he's already stuffed up with used models he'll want to offer you a price that's below market value and this is probably the case in your case.

Give a few other dealers a call as they might be experiencing higher demand than the one you went to, and therefore they'll offer you a higher price.

It doesn't really matter what part-ex price you get, its the cost to change which is the figure you need to work on. Could get a great px valuation but then get no discount on the car/van your buying, or the other way around. Know what your happy to pay and work around that.

I understand that it is the cost to change. Discount is nothing over the usual and the other incentives are from vwfs so not the dealer margin either.

Have a look at webuyany van mine went up by £1000 last week . It will give you a guide
2016 Kombi high line 140 swb Standard kit £18600 inc vat With 46000 miles .

Dealer has adjust price to a point where I am happy with the deal.
I have placed an advert in the for sale section giving you guys an option to purchase prior to trade in and the dealers mark up.

Personally I would avoid appearing too enthusiastic, it doesn't help when negotiating.
Unless there are a queue of potential buyers you hold the reins.

There isn't really a 'one fits all' answer to that to be honest.
I tend to look at what similar are selling through the dealer network, then real time prices if you can find any on somewhere like eBay, then finally put the reg in somewhere like webuyanycar to see what the low ball values would be.
Example:
Dealer £30k
Private £27k
Low ball £20k
Then I'd look at a realistic private sale of £25-£26k

Also bare in mind if VAT has to be added, plus the fact you cannot offer financing, which most buyer want and if the market is flooded with the same vehicle. The sad reality is high end vehicles are often just purchased by the trade because not many people have a spare £25k sat in the bank and those that do, probably won't want to spend it anyway, rather opting to hold onto their money and spend a finance companies.

On the plus side, I've seen a few T6s sell privately on here (you need to be a VIP member to sell, but worth the cost)
You have the most popular colour (although its Indium, not Indian, but that will be your phone that's changing that;))
It's the very desirable 204 and DSG, so if a T6 is going to sell, it will be more likely one like yours.

Good luck.

Hi all,

I may be looking to sell my van soon so I'm after some help valuing it. I've had a look at Auto Trader but the range there is limited, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Its a 67 plate T32 Highline LWB 204PS DSG Kombi Chestnut Brown Metallic. 30k miles

Rough spec from factory:
Tailgate
Power latch doors
Sliding doors both sides
Heated seats
Comfort dash
Dust seals
Second battery
Extra keys
LED lights front and back
Adaptive cruise control
Discover media nav system
Single front passenger seat

Work carried out by Bognor Motors (I highly recommend):
Bilstein B14 and H&R ARBS (van is lowered and levelled)
VW trapezoid side bars – powder coated in black
Caravelle grille and lower trim
Front spoiler (gloss) Same as white van
Rear colour coded spoiler
Black 17" alloy wheels

Cant think of anything else. Picture below (hopefully!)

Also has anyone had experience of selling a van lately? where was the best place you found to do this in the end?

Jerba Campervans have just put up a very relevant blog post on speed limits on their website, which refers to discussions with Dept for Transport - Motorcaravan, Campervan & Van With Windows Speed Limits - UPDATED 2020 | Jerba Campervans

This concurs with the view of Salty Spuds - i.e. if you have a motorcaravan (as defined in the Motor Vehicle Regulations 1979) that is under 3.05 tonnes unladen weight then car speed limits apply. It seems one may need to argue the issue in court unfortunately, unless the NIP is withdrawn when the facts are pointed out (which seems to have ocurred sometimes under the dual purpose vehicle argument covered elsewhere on the Forum).

I think I will take the risk on ANPR cameras on such as the A9, but where I know camera vans set up I will slow down briefly.

Yip. Case of convincing a court what is, to quote the act 'reasonable'. Screw a picnic table, camp bed and gas burner to the floor of your van and perhaps you got yourself a motor caravan, under the 1979 act.

As implied above, the 1979 act wont stop the NIP being generated. Can see people being inconvenienced until a stated case gets established as a precedent.

Worth considering what's included in your legal protection with your insurance, if your not comfortable with the idea of writing letters in defence or representing yourself at a court.

The highway code is not law, however the courts can use it as a guide to establish if something constitutes, for example, a careless driving offence.

Similarly, it will be interesting to see if the courts fall back on the DfT guidelines outlining what they consider, constitutes a motor caravan, as being the test of what is 'reasonable'.

Once again, speed limit legislation needs overhauled.

The Birchover winning the Motorhome Design Awards is a reasonable indication that its a motor caravan! ;)
Even without a high top, graphics and an awning rail!

Hi all.

Would love to hear from the community what you think it’s worth? Difficult time to sell I guess but here’s the spec:

- 2017 SWB Kombi DSG 4motion
- Grey
- 35k miles
- Twin electric sliding doors
- latching tailgate
- LED front and rear
- 20” wheels
- Sportline front bumper

Difficult to tell in current climate have seen some wild pricing out there. And Parker’s says 17k lol.
