Welcome new members

Hi all! I’m new. ☺️

I got my T6 last summer, found the forum when looking for information to install the lock-button. 😅 Figured I might as well sign-up as there is a lot of information on this forum!

I use my van for my dogs (2 huskies: hiking, traveling but also vet visits and stuff) but I also want to make a bed in it for “light camping” and do some more mods (wheels, insulation, sidebars, bullbar?, light, …) It doesn’t need to become an entire off-grid camping vehicle.

Hey all, Tom here. Always wanted a transporter but needed bigger vans for work. After my sprinter went walkabouts a year ago I decided to push the button as my work now doesn't call for such a big van.

Got myself into a 6.1 startline. Looking to create a hybrid work / camper with bolt in and out modules.

At the start of the journey at the moment, added stock alloys and upgraded suspension, picking up highline bumper tomorrow. Will post pics throughout the build!

Always good to welcome another Tyke! ;)

Hi, everyone, Andy & Tracey here with a T6.1 LWB Highline Camper King 'St Tropez' conversion, which we bought back in Feb.
Done a few local excursions to get used to it all, and have a couple of 10-day roadtrips planned for North Wales and then Lake District in the autumn.
Hoping to get to the continent next year, pet-passports permitting 🤷‍♂

Hi everyone,

My partner and I finally pulled the trigger on our new T6.1 yesterday!

I'll be slowly converting it into at least a weekend camper, so I'm sure you're all going to be super helpful.

Looking forward to sharing the journey!

Cheers

Hi vorno welcome to the T6 Forum. Sensible colour for camping helps keep the heat down with all the sunshine we always have in Wales. Lots of helpful people to help spend your money and also some very experienced and technical authors too, do not worry about that. Look forward to hear about your developments and progress.:)

Hi everyone just bought this Autohaus Kameo. Looking forward to some long European adventures and quite a few local one to. Going to be a daily and already running up an expensive list of added goodies. Enjoying all the info as a newbie to this scene. Be well.

Hi, I’m new to all of this but have 18 months of research time before we make the move to buy, a lot can happen in that time of course!

So after a couple of months thoughts, we’ve looked at homes on wheels and gone full circle back to what I had in my mind.

The vehicle will also need to be a main vehicle, don’t have the budget to have a drive ornament, my use will include towing a rally car and horsebox, and sometimes taking music gear (subs, amps, instruments) and travelling to gigs.

Camping wise, Europe and the UK for two of us and a couple of hooligan small dogs, possibly occasional extra body in the shape of one of the grandchildren.

I’m yet to decide on wheelbase, but swaying between both, I think I may need LWB but I bet I don’t, need a rail bed to maximise load area and much like my road cars (but not my rally car) I have been driving awd now for over 25 years and have found it makes sense the way I drive and where I drive, so 4motion is high on the wish list.

I’ve recently driven a T6.1 150bhp DSG over 1000 miles over 23 hours down to Cornwall, the Gower, the Mach Loop and back home doing a delivery trip, didn’t sleep in it, but some things I hated were its non standard lowered suspension, awful! Crashed out on anything bigger than a flattened coke can! Apple car play and whole system would crash! DSG box often got confused and bogged down and the ACC is dangerous! And explains the weird behaviour on motorways of people using such systems without monitoring what’s happening! Heated screen is a hazard in low sun dirty windscreen moments!

Having said all that, I am convinced the VW route is the one for us and I’m looking forward to picking brains and asking stupid questions!

Haha a thousand mile review where you hate it but still want to buy one. Love it. On that basis then, your getting a standard suspension, manual 150 kombi then???
To be fair, the first Tarnsporter i drove was a poverty spec hire van which wollowed in the corners and was gutless. I hated it as well. Get a manual without a bulkhead and you'll be fine.

va salut, grup.
o sa scriu in romana.E vreo problema?

Hello all, newbie here, and alas no Transporter just yet. Always fancied one, and we have 3 kids (10, 8, 8) and have struggled with car sizes for a while now. We’re currently running a 3008 and are currently in France having our first holiday abroad where we’ve driven. For me, this has highlighted the need for a bit more space especially as t’other half is keen to do more Europe trips in the coming years however she is unconvinced by a van. So…if anyone has any recommendations on how to convince her, I’m all ears! I’m not sure yet about a Kombi or a Caravelle…the former would probably be a more useful daily, the latter a more useful long drive vehicle, and also maybe more family days out with grandparents etc. Definitely no need for camping capabilities, with there being 5 of us.

Were not quite in a position to pull a trigger yet anyway as I’m currently selling my coffee van business so have neither cash nor space, but perhaps over the next 6-12 months I’d be very interested.
