Webasto stand-alone heater?

We have a working Webasto on an old Vauxhall Movano, which my lad wants to take out to use in his T5. We're happy to tackle the heater install, but not so confident about providing a new diesel feed on the T5.
So, we were pondering the possibility of making it into a self-contained heater, to be used outside the van with hot air piped in via a flexi through one of the front windows. Cheap, nasty & broken 800w 2-stroke generators or pumps are easy to come by, which with the engine discarded leaves a sturdy frame and a fuel tank with a tap. The portable heater could then be shared rather than being stuck in one vehicle. It would need a 12v feed of course. What do you think, is this a completely daft idea? has anyone tried it (and lived to tell the tale?)
Cheers

My old Eber pulled about 10 amps when starting up, there was two separate power feeds to it with different fuses so you might need a fancy solution for powering it. The air intake is inside the van as well. Unless you have an seperate temperature sensor it measures the air intake temp. If this is pulling air from outside it will run on full blast all the time.
