Water from behind awning rail

Gota pic?

It is doing it at numerous points. The underneath of the rail from strip to van was dry. I even dried it all away and kept a towel in place to stop any water from the awning to strip connector it still beaded through.

Maybe it's normal I just have fights of it being a rust magnet. Needless to say I was worried about such modifications going on even though I know its a normal thing to get

If it can be removed I would take the rail off and refit it with a good bead of exterior sealant/adhesive like Sikaflex

I have zero practical skills that would not end well I suspect.

It literally just got fitted maybe a month ago and this is its first use.

I assume it's not supposed to be doing that if fitted well?

I would contact whoever fitted it and ask them to rectify it, I would not expect it to seep water.

Can you show us a picture of the rail from above outside the van please.

Pete

Definitely not fitted correctly. I've seen this many times on Reimo Rails. Should be set on a bead of sealant. Go back to the fitter

Thanks for the help. A few more questions.

What does the fixing this look like for the fitter does it have to be removed and put back on? Can that even happen as isn't it bonded to the van?

The water coming through and dropping onto my can step aside does those introduce worse problems like creating a rust magnet behind the rail?

What is the primer they talk about on videos? Seems to be anti-rusting.

Trying to understand a bit more so I can have a robust conversation. In all honesty I am a bit disappointed with them as I purchased the van off them and they have been great so far.

I also notice the run off is quite distant from the windscreen but that will probably just have to remain a thing.

Okay, having watched a few videos.

The sealant was put on after the rail was fixed so it can be done even though my rail is bonded.

The primer was done before bonding so if that had not been done I will never know.

Pretty sure this thing cannot removed as part of any remedial work as that is what bonding suggests....

That means whoever fitted it has not done the job properly. Should be water tight with a good sealant.

Yeah I am going to do that.

I was just curious what fixing it looks like since it is bonded to the van?

What are the longterm issues of it leaking I am assuming a rust nightmare? I may be worrying too much here even though I want it done right.

I will ring them today. Literally just put water behind from a jug the only restriction as to how much came through seemed to be how much would fit.

You'll probably find they've only put Sikaflex around the screw holes. To do it properly the screws need removing and the Sika carefully cutting through with a line/string. When the rail is off the van, clean all the old sealant off and start again with a fresh bead along the full length of the rail.

Alternatively you could just run a thin bead of clear silicone along the top of the rail. This will stop the water coming through

This is what your converter will likely do. It’ll work, as Deaky points out, but begs the question as to why they didn’t do it the first time around.
