Did we ever reach a conclusion whether a retaining cable is "a good thing" or not? I can find nothing anywhere to suggest folk use one - it is of course a requirement for an unbraked trailer, and a breakaway cable is for a braked trailer. I do wonder whether having an errant bike rack bouncing along on the end of a cable would be a nice thing.

Don’t no the answer...But I’d not be happy for the potential of a tethered tow bar bike rack snapping back and whacking the van...but we are all armed with new knowledge regarding tow bar mounts ..so let’s hope that none us will suffer the same poor luck
