VW Sat Nav Map - latest update

I'm sure it's been asked a thousand times, but I'd like to know how to update my Satnav as it says 2016 when it fires up.
I was hoping it could be done via the house wifi, but had no joy .. it could never just be that simple!

Download the software you need from the link below, take the SD card out of the VW satnav and put into your PC/Mac and follow the instructions.
Takes hours and hours so be patient -

The update went badly as is usually the case!

Went for the smallest download which took an hour and a half.
Once complete I was asked to choose an app to complete the task.
BreesZip was the first free option in the "store" and downloaded.

Lots of wizzy fan action then took place … then nothing?

No download in BreesZip and original Windows download "moved or deleted"

Put SD card back in van and says build date 2016.

Thats's me done until the long nights now … first Sunday off this month & better things to do!

It sounds like you have tried to do it the ‘long way’ by downloading a map then doing the instal manually. Can I suggest you download, from the same site, the download manager (called data base update) which will do everything for you. Not promising it will work but......
 
Just left mine to do its own thing overnight, lo and behold looked this morning all finished and updated. No need for any program to unzip anything - all done by the database update manager. 7 1/2 hours according to the log:

I never did manage to update as it all goes wrong when my PC wants me to go in the App store to find something to update it with.

But, in the last couple of weeks, the satnav has started displaying speed limits and warnings of traffic or roadworks ahead.
Is it using some sort of live data feed?
Also, on a recent trip to the Hebrides, the stop/start function never cut in once - It's like the van knows where it is all the time?
 
Hi, I think you are still trying to download the wrong item. On the VW website, above the map files is a data file called something like download manager. You run and install this and it will do everything for you.
It gets traffic data from the radio

I just don't see it?
I even watched a YouTube tutorial that did as you say.
I select model, discover media, bundle 1, download …. then a box pops up saying chose a programme in the Microsoft app store, and it all goes wrong?
May try it on my old Windows 7 laptop, or just give it to someone with a MacBook.

As its a rainy day I thought I would update my maps. I have gone through the automatic process which failed. The log is below.

I put the card back in the head-unit and now I get a Nav failure message.

When I try the update process on the PC again it says I have the current maps but I still get a failure message on the head unit.

Any suggestions gratefully received (and yes the SD card was unlocked so I don't understand why the files could not be removed).

After 3 failed attempts, I took my laptop and SD card to my mates today to find out exactly how I could be getting it wrong?

It took him no time to see the problem;

My new laptop doesn't have an SD slot, so I have been putting the card in the same USB plug in thing that I use for photos.
The installer is looking for an SD card and not a USB.
Anyway, he did it with a stick thing & said use your old Dell XPS laptop next time.
 
Just concluding what my issue was, so it may help someone else having problems!
Windows 10 on a 2019 Lenovo by the way … not some shonky old desktop running Vista.
All updated just fine now by the way.
 
Hi all,

it's been nearly a year since I updated the sd card for the sat nav.

I tried an update this morning on the laptop but the programme says I have the latest version.. if it really a year old or when was the last update? I can't find a link to the update list.

great thank you, i tried several times via vw care start but it refuses to acknowledge the new maps so i am trying the manual download now
