hi everyone
Do you guys ever talk about price paid and/or discounts offered by the dealer. I put pen to paper today and wondering if i got a good enough deal in the end. Fair enough if its off limits tho ?

I paid £24000 plus vat for a SWB 140 t32 kombi.
I was happy with that and have just worked out I am saving £28 a month on fuel compared with my transit custom and more if I don't just use it for work.

Typical discounts range from 10 to 12 % plus what ever else you can push for. This is on a panel or kombi.

10-12% for a new order from a main dealer seems to be where its at, you can get a bit more from brokers but you take your chances

Is buying from broker risky?

I am waiting for a quote from the main dealer as I have had to delay going over until Friday. They mentioned 11% but a broker/convertor has mentioned 22% and is looking at availability for me too. It's a considerable saving if the come through but if it's also a lot of money of there is a risk of issues?

Several months ago brokers were offering crazy deals and buying vehicles from VW on fleet terms (larger discounts) and selling on to private customers, VW got a wind of what was going on and pulled most brokers orders meaning people who ordered from them were back to the start, some had waited 1-2-3 months only to have to go to main dealer anyway and start over.
If your sensible about who you order from then i would say theres very little to no risk, converters and established dealers are fine its some of the online brokers offering to good to be true deals i would be a bit more wary off, same as anything do your homework and dont part with money until you are sure

Sound advice from @Pauly. I was one of those that got stung by a broker. To be fair, went and told my story to my local dealer who did his best to match broker price. He didn't quite get there but adding in service pack deal and £500 payment from the broker after I threw a bit of legals his way (!) meant the broker price wasn't too far off in the end.

I think I was just unlucky with the broker.... It's a well used model (buy through fleet deals and sell cheap to retail) it seems and my broker just got a bit greedy with the volumes

I went to two broker first and one was £1000 more than I payed the dealer and the other just never returned my calls and they are a big name . My local dealer was a waste of time and the next nearest only wanted to let me test drive the model I was after during the week as a member of staff always takes it home at the weekend. I went 100 miles and got a good price and great service.

Thanks for the responses @Pauly @Walski and @Keeff, Sound advice that I will take on board. I still haven't even driven one but 99% sure one will be on the way from somewhere in the next week or so.

Thanks for the comments. OK so it seems I'm got the dealer to 10% in the end and could have maybe pushed for more if some are getting 12%. I've signed the order form already but not paid for a deposit yet so maybe still time to do something?
With that being said I got some great service from them, couple of test drives today, One in a manual Kombi which I wasn't happy about as I have bought a DSG, so we then took a vDSG van out afterwards. Even suggested I sit in their Caravelle to make sure the height is OK on the swivel seats. Just got the feeling he went out his way, and was very upfront about the current lead time going into beginning of next year!

I had in mind before even looking at the figures if I could get the exact spec van I was after for £35k+vat I would be happy and it's actually come in a few grand less. Fully loaded T32 Kombi 204PS, with all the extras, LEDs, Swivels, Sunroof, Twin electric doors etc, tow bar, etc etc

My dealer said up to 14% on vans but Caravelle/Cali only 10%.
Unless you find one in stock they want to shift that's how I got mine.

I managed 15.4% which got within £500 of a broker quote i'd received, i chose to go with the VW main dealer though as i've used them for 5 years and they are a decent bunch. That discount was the max they could get me though, apparently pulling in every discount available on a sale to achieve it.
I've just paid 29k +Vat OTR for a T32 Highline 204 DSG Van with 5k of extras.

The broker who quoted me was Happy New Van, it was useful as leverage in the deal.

How did they you down? I just received an amazing quite from them. 15.7% discount. This represents a huge saving for me! And means I wouldn't have to finance the extra 6k!!

What are the pitfalls to buying from a broker. From what I can tell the process seems the same as if it was coming from a dealer. Not sure how they will feel when I rock up for its first service or warranty work tho lol

Nice deal.... HAppyNewVan were the ones that let me down.

Yeah i was happier ordering from the main dealer, a face to speak to and 5 mins from home i can pop in no trouble for updates etc.
The HappyNewVan quote was good for leverage in the deal with the main dealer though.

I think I did OK with my dealer, but I have had to wait
11% discount
