Victron Energy Bmv-712 Smart

After playing around with the bluetooth and the app when my Victron 12/7 arrived, I must admit I did hover over the buy button for one of these.

Did you pay RRP for this, or did you grab a deal somewhere?

Victron make great gear. These are an awesome bit of kit, I use a fair few of them in the day job. They work great standalone but mine are normally paired with quattros.

Make sure you let it learn, don't get trigger happy & manually reset the soc side

I take it Victron don’t make a DC-DC charger?

looks like it . . . . . 25A, 50A 100A badboys, and USB programmable. looks very nice,

EDIT: just looked into this and its a "DcDc converter which can charge a battery but with a constant voltage (not a charge curve)." so its not a smart charger for Bulk, Absorbtion, and Float charge. . . . . . so maybe not so great afterall as a T6 Aux batt DC-DC. (its more of a smart-pass type unit)

Ooh, any inside information? I assume it will have the bluetooth goodies but will it cope with large >32v solar input?
It will be Bluetooth for sure and I am hoping that it will have a high input for panels too. They are taking their time so they better get it right.

Let’s hope so! Currently only the Ring unit can cope with >32v solar and that is huge and appears to have reliability issues.

I beg to differ, the Ablemail AMS takes 32 volts and has a higher output than the Ring. It is also supremely reliable.

By >32v, I meant greater than 32v. As far as I know, only the Ring unit can do this as it can cope with 50v solar input.

This AMS charger automatically chooses the Solar/Wind input or the vehicles 12V electrical system to charge nominal 12V battery packs. It works with Ignition control, Constant Voltage Alternators, Euro 5 & 6 engines, STOP/START, Smart Alternator charging systems & Vehicles with Regenerative Braking, ( Mercedes Benz Blue Efficiency Vehicles, VW Blue Motion Vehicles, Ford ECOnetic vehicles, Vauxhall ecoFlex vehicles to name a few).
The AMS charger monitors the solar input to determine whether the vehicle alternator or solar panel input should be used to charge the secondary battery . When using the solar input the charger uses a maximum power point tracking algorithm to ensure maximum use of the solar/wind energy source and disconnects the solar input if the solar voltage exceeds acceptable limits (<36V)
