Evening all!
So I have had some peeling on my Velare VL07 centre caps, didn't think anything of it and ordered some 65mm centre caps on Temu along with a 'few' other bits to get the free delivery - that has basically ended up costing £60 and is mainly tat!
Anyway......they have arrived, have the genuine VW parts number on the back and really solid quality, but, very slightly too big for the Velare alloys, I'm talking maybe 0.5-0.8mm but as you can imagine still too tight to persuade in there!
So, I have looked at the original Velare centre caps and they are alloy bonded to the plastic centre and am just going to give them a good wire brush and paint them.
My question here really, what paints best for matching the black alloys? Also the one centre caps appears loose on the plastic backing, will sikaflex that I have be sufficient to bond these together or would there be a more suitable alternative?

Mine did the same. If you can get it lightly shot blasted that would be best because of the lettering is hard to get into, but if not a good sand. As for colour just use some spray black hammerite. Sikaflex will be ok or 2pack bonding which ever is cheaper

Completed the centre caps today but am not really happy with them, the black smooth hamerite spray is not what it used to be, it's just don't seem to harden like it used to? The centre caps all cleaned up with wire brush and scotchbrite, soap and water, then dried in the oven at 120°c for 2 hours, alcohol wiped, primed (aluminium/ally special metal primer) allowed to dry as per instructions. Then 4 thin coats of smooth hamerite spray. Been left to dry for 3 days but the paint is so soft, I honestly can press a finger nail into it so easily.
Im not sure what's gone on here, I have used some black smooth hamerite (brush application) on other metal parts and it's rock hard!?

Anyhow, they're back on the van, better than having silver flakey centre caps but not happy with them at all really 😞

That's strange should be hard by now. Might be worth sending the makers an email to see if its a bad batch. If you were closer I would offer to paint them for you at work.

I have black Velare 07's and had the same issues with flaky centre caps. 18 months ago I enquired with Velare about replacing them and from memory I was quoted £10 each. Surely they are still gettable?
I was lucky enough to find our very own @Leemondo12 to create some custom VW centre caps that have worked perfectly for well over a year. I think he is too busy currently with work commitments, but with another daughter turning 18 I could really do with him coming out of forum retirement to create a couple of 4D plates for her new private reg! #spoiledkids
