Upgrading T28 To T32?

Is it possible?
Is it simply uprated suspension and reregister with DVLA/VOSA, or is there more to it than that?
Cheers
Chris

I think you need to get an independent company to certify it as well.
I briefly looked into this when shopping for a donor vehicle, wondering what would be involved in reclassifying a T32 down to a T30.

Perhaps @andythom188 will be able to assist on this one, as he was/is looking into getting a company called SVtech to drop his axle ratings from a T32.

You need to phone SVTech and ask them what's involved. They will advise you what can be done both in terms of parts and registration paperwork.

Plenty of people putting B14s on so shouldnt be too hard to get a suspension set from a T32

T32 front suspension won’t fit a T28/T30, the fixings are different. I don’t know about T28 to T30 though, that could just be a case of new springs and replating. Phone SVTech and ask for Gareth Marsh, he will know the details.

hubs are different on a t32 from a t30

Why would you bother?

I would imagine the main reason would be to legally carry more load...

My reason for asking is this.
I am looking for a 4motion van and will, at times, be carrying 6 passengers/camping gear/supplies as well as the conversion. I have seen T28 vans advertised with 4motion BUT I am now informed that this must have been a mistake and that 4motion can only ever be T30 or T32?

I replaced the rear shocks and springs from T28 to T32 (t6.1). When I went to do the fronts, I realised the hub at the bottom was completely different so i didn't take it apart. Vaguely looked into the VW parts list and it looks like it needs the T32 wheel bearing housing too for both fronts. Quick online check revealed they're like 350 quid each (-_-) . I have no idea what's needed in terms of getting the paper work done though.

For what it's worth, SV Tech upplated my T28 T6 camper conversion to T30 but it was a fairly simple task as nothing needed to be done to the van. Apparently my existing T28 suspension was OK and the wheels and tyres had already been changed to a set of Devonports taken straight off a new T32. Suggest you talk to them about the art of the possible as it's not as simple as an individual just doing the work and then getting DVLA to issue an updated V5. SV Tech are an acknowledged engineering authority in such matters (but I understand that there are others out there) and they had to certificate that the vehicle was full up to spec for the additional load as well as providing a new silver 'weight plate' sticker that has to be displayed somewhere on the van where it can be easily read if needed (the old one under the bonnet is also left in place). Also, as somebody indicated above, there is a cost attached - mine cost £250 which was a discounted 'show price' at Malvern a couple of years ago and it was worth it to me. That said, I'm a moron when it comes to mechanical stuff and I therefore have no idea if it's likely to be a financially viable proposal (or even technically possible) to go from T28 to T32. Best of luck whatever you do.

Agree, if you want it replated, speak to svtech. You’ll need someone like them to do the official plates/paperwork anyway and there’s no point doing a load of unnecessary mods that don’t achieve what you want.
