Upgrade rear struts - how to?

This may sound like a daft question...

I changed the tailgate struts to the stronger ones, mounted the same as the factory ones, thicker end to the body, thinner to the tailgate.

no instructions with the new struts.

passenger side popped off twice on opening, they are both fitted correctly on the ball mount.

second time it came off its smashed my rear light and took a chunk out of the seam sealer on the tailgate! Utterly delighted with that bit!

The only images I’ve found online show the van style ones (mine aren’t that type though) they seem to mount the other way around?

Does it even matter which way they go?

I’ve contacted the seller on eBay asking for a refund and reimbursement for the tail light, surprisingly I’ve not had a response yet...

I changed mine on the caravelle but mine are thick end to the tailgate and thin end to the body

Body to the top makes for better lubrication as far as I understand it.

Hi all. I need to upgrade my rear tailgate struts next weekend to accommodate fitting a new bike rack. I have the struts but does anyone know of a YouTube clip that shows how it’s done? I’ve had a search and can’t find much. Thanks
