Uncomfortable double-seat

Hi, After our first trip out, we realised the double bench seat is really uncomfortable. Apart from replacing it with a single, has anyone made any mods or added accessories which improve the comfort of the front passenger bench seat?

Putting some washers under the front lip of the bench seat base also makes a big difference by putting a bit more pitch on the whole seat base. Very easy to do putting a few washers on each of the 4 bolts and made a noticeable difference on ours.

Bought the vankraft seat bracket as I found the seat very uncomfortable .fitted it ,showed the missus who thought it was great that u can now fold the seat flat as well. Went out for the day on Sunday and she hated it :mad::mad: being short she could no longer touch the floor and with the seat tilted further back she was now leaning on the pillar so had nowhere to rest her arm!! So stripped it out brought it to work today and remachined it back to original angle.Never mind at least the seat still folds  ( Ps I thought it was a great position and a nice bit of kit ,bit pricey for what it is though)

Was it easy to fit the bracket? Also, did you tilt the base with the washers idea by Broadside? Do any of these mods affect the crash test credentials of the seat?

Hi @Pidsley bracket dead easy to fit an hour max, didn't try the washer method first, unfortunately didn't see the post till today:( .The vankraft info says it is fully crash tested .If you have a regular sized wife who finds the position uncomfortable it is probably a good buy!!

Thanks. Did you fit it with the seat in the van?

Yes got a swivel base so just turned it slightly to get at the spline bolts on door side not sure if you can get a socket in the space between the pillar and the seat .Will have a look tonight when I refit it and let you know.

my mrs also wasn’t happy with the bench front seat , now fitted vancraft bracket also a foot rest . Happy wife now

We have had double bench seat in our van for 5 years. I’m use to it now, but a few extra inches for pitch in depth sounds good. I’m not sure what you mean about putting “washers” on bolts under front lip?

The bench has 8 fixings to the floor, four across the front and four across the back. If you unbolt it and add an equal thickness of washers on the four front fixings, and bolt it back down, it has the effect of tilting the seat backwards.

Fitted the "angled" Vankraft bracket and we both find the angle too severe to sit comfortably in. It riminds me of the angle boy racers seem to prefer. Going to take it out, re-order the non-angled version and go with the washer meth just to get a few degrees of comfort. I'm shocked the "angled" version gets so much love.

Hi, I’m looking at doing this, what size washers do you need?

The bench seat is usually uncomfortable for one of three reasons:

1. Too upright - fit the Vancraft bracket for better recline £150.

2. Too high off the floor - usually after fitting a swivel base, you need a reduced-height base £300-£400.

3. Too flat, lack of support - get a single passenger seat, likely cost £700-£1,000 with part exchange of double seat for a single seat base (that's like-for-like T6 seats, T5 seats can be cheaper)

+ Occasionally lack of leg space comes up - there's no easy solution to that one, except a single seat
