Tyres Wearing Out Too Soon!? 19” Goodyear

Hi all,
I have a T6 high line and I had it lowered when it was getting converted. However, I have changed my tyres (all 4) twice in a period of 2 years. Is this right or is my van not lowered or configured correctly?
I have used my van for various trips around the uk and a long one to Croatia. I have just noticed that my back 2 tyres will need replacing soon. They were replaced last year (summer). Your advice will be greatly received.

how many miles have you done? My T6 is on about 22K and still the same set all round, despite lots of short journeys

Yep...seems a common theme...My18 204 kombi HL DSG ...just done 13k and estimate 2k before need to change ( Goodyear Eagle F1)
But apply a bit of peddle and the fronts spin all to easy..that don’t help:x3:. Maybe where both unlucky with tyres....but for the sake of a harder compound which might give better longevity, it’s the road noise can’t live with....
So if any one has a long life, quite, good wet weather tyre let us know..:thumbsup:

This has been reported many times on here, including my own T6 that's on maximum drop on B14 coilovers. I was eating through rear tyres at a rate of around 4000-5000 miles a pair. It turned out that my alignment was toe out by quite a bit.
I have a picture of specific settings that only a Hunter alignment engineer will understand. This has cured my issue and I now get over double the miles on my tyres that I was before, around 12k per set.
If you plan on using a Hunter alignment specialist and want the settings, then drop me a PM with your mobile number and I will send you them over WhatsApp. They won't mean a lot to you, but a Hunter engineer will understand them and you will need to find a company that is ok with overriding the computer to input these settings, not one that will just set it to the factory settings, because that won't work.

On my old velle the front passanger side was terrible for wear on the outside edge. Had it aligned by different hunter places but to no avail. Just hope the kombi dosn't do the same

It's these specific Hunter codes they apply into the equipment and they have to set it outside of the normal parameters, meaning the engineer has to physically override the computer to input these settings. It sounds more complex than it actually is.
 
I've gone through a set if tyres in less than 12 months. About 11000 miles. I thought it was alignment, however the rear looked like this:

Centre has worn slightly faster than edges so maybe 1-2psi to much but otherwise wear seems pretty normal, but such low milage. Tyres are Nexen NFera, so maybe a better (more expensive) brand might last longer.

I ran exactly the same tyres and exactly the same sizes as you, with pretty much exactly the same wear mileage. The more expensive brands I had, like the Goodyears and Continentals lasted less than the Nexen's, but they were much softer.

In my experience, tyre brands are all a compromise between wear, price, performance and noise. I still rate the Eagle F1 as the best summer tyre i've used, closely followed by the Continental Sports 6. The Nexen were less performance, but lasted longest and contrary to what some T6 owners think about my current Falken FK510's, I personally don't like them at all on my van. They are way too noisy and noticeably poorer in the performance stakes than pretty much all my previous tyres, except a set of Generals, which were an appalling tyre on a T6.

I've yet to find my tyre sweet spot, but my next set will probably be another set of Eagle F1's.

On performance low profile tyres?

I've never been able to get that kind of mileage on any commercial vehicle I've owned on lower profiles than the standard factory fit.
 
What size tyres are you running and at what pressures. With upgraded alloys remember you are running an SUV tyre not a commercial so a softer compound, so they will never last as long as the standard tyres.

Also if your suspension is upgraded, the tyres will work harder.

Commonly on the 20” wheels people run their pressures too high. After much testing we recommend 36 all round on a 275/35 and 265/40 with a normal load.

I also recommend Goodyear Eagle F1s. The ones on our 250ps 4Motion demo, the rears are half worn in 15k miles.

The tyres are 245/45R19. I checked the pressures and they were at 42 on the rear.

That sounds good milage, especially on 4WD. I would be happy with 15k from a set never mind half worn. I wouldn't mind but I drive the van like Captain Slow.
 
I tend to buy tyres based on their noise rating, lower noise typically means softer rubber, so a bit of a trade off between wear and comfort/performance.

I've had similar wear performance from the Goodyear F1s and the Fulda equivalent (Goodyear's semi-budget brand), same noise rating. Noisier and harder rubber is available, and I'd probably get more miles. But having experienced 72dB tyres, I'll give them a miss.

That is usually due to tyre scrub on roundabouts. Just take them a touch slower!
 
This comment above is exactly right. People don’t believe me when I tell them :)
Used to live in Basingstoke (Nicknamed...Doughnut City ) Roundabouts everywhere...used to eat CV joints and tyres ..so that makes sense @Mooncat ..good advice :thumbsup:
