TSI mpg with and without remap

Hi all,

Thanks to the replies on here to another thread I posted I'm thinking my use for a van as my only vehicle - a far bit of short local journeys - may rule out a diesel van, so I'm considering the rare TSI. (I can wait).

What are people getting from their TSI in terms of mph? And can a remap improve this?

I've had a 2.5 v6 Mazda Bongo in the past and added an LPG conversion which saved a bundle on fuel in the long run, but having checked the price of LPG of late this doesn't really seem a worthwhile option.

Many thanks

Damian

Speed limit is still 70mph in the UK whatever you drive.

Your post reads like you’re interested in mpg rather than mph, but I’ve typically seen people buy the tsi with the plan to remap for more power, not fuel economy.

I have a TSI with the revo stage 1 and DSG remap. I don’t drive very economically, which means I typically get about 25 mpg out of it.

An interesting discussion. I’ll add my 10 penny worth. My 204 with remap to circa 250 along with DSG remap runs perfectly and has had zero. Issues in 3 years. It drives amazingly well using the huge amount of torque at mostly low revs. I tow a loaded 2400kg trailer and fully loaded van on long trips across Europe where the engine excels on long stints between fuel stops. I am pedantic when is comes to services which my Indy does. Oil and filters every 5k DSG oil and filter every 20k as well air and fuel filters. I may be wrong but because my van works very hard and has extra services it does not suffer from any of the known issues. It’s a joy compared with my previous 180 Btdi CFCA which undoubtedly was a complete bag of sh..
Oh and I have extended the warranty for a further two years!

Do you mean MPH or MPG?

Yes, my dyslexic brain got in the way there. Yes, mpg!!

Thank, yes I appreciate it's mostly about power but I and sure I have read some post elsewhere about improvement in mpg too. Maybe I got that wrong?

Give us a call when can sort you out bud

We ran a TSI T6 when they first came out. We had it for a year and most of it at stage 1 - 295ps. This engine needs to be mapped, as in the Transporter and the weight of it, it feels very torque light. You have to work it hard to get it moving. Therefore when driving it at stage one (when not canning it) we found it have a better MPG, as you don’t need to work it as hard. The Revo map for this engine is spot on and transforms your drive.

PS. Wish I still had a TSI

I had my 204 TSI remapped, firstly by Pendle to 303 bhp (but it soon developed a hesitation that I couldn’t get Pendle to sort out), The next remap was by @Dav-Tec to a claimed 250 bhp (ish) accompanied by a DSG map as well and I am still happy with this one.
To be honest, I didn’t really notice any change in MPG, but if you have a bespoke remap it might be possible to have it tuned to economy over brute power?

As for LPG, I find the price to be about 60% or so of petrol, although motorway service stations can charge well over a £1/litre. This is still a good saving over V-Power (or other premium fuel), but I have also found many LPG pumps disappearing or permanently U/S, so I would think very hard before investing in an LPG conversion nowadays.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I have reached the conclusion I am not in the right place for a van just now, sadly.

TSI would suit my shorter journeys as it would be my only vehicle, but the mpg is shocking really.

Diesel fits the mpg bill, but my current use could jeopardize the health of the engine and I may run into expensive issues down the line.

I am hoping to move inthe GF in the next year - we both have quite complicated situations so it's taking time to splice our lives together. She has a car, so when that's available I think a diesel van for adventure and her car for the town will be the way to go.

I have bought a T6 TSI manual gearbox 2017 LWB with 75.000km on it's clock. Quite some work to do since it used to run on CNG.

In the meanwhile , just got it converted from {CNG + petrol} with a small petrol tank to {petrol + LPG} with a new full size petrol tank.

When driving 100 on high ways and a bit of Economy in mind, our T6 would drive on average 1 liter on 10km. With driving the same with LPG i think it is 1:8-9ish.

I currently have some issues with the lpg installation just installed, but there seem to be some issues with the combination of start-stop/idling. (Get engine light and sometimes EPC). Will get that looked at in 2 weeks.

All in all, happy with my TSI + LPG, hoping to get my investment back in 1,5 -2 years. Especially with that **** EU and restricting diesels more and more and having to pay more and more for fuell.

Oh PS. the "mileage" was/is fully loaded with 2 ebikes on a tailgate bikerack inclusief camper equipment for 2 people.

I have the same van but the CNG system was removed and a 50l petrol tank installed - my fuel gage and radius reading acts loopy and im wondering if it isnt due to the smaller tank. the original petrol tank on these vans is 80l. Do you have any strange readings? for example I sometimes get a warning light to refuel when i know i have at least a 1/4 to 1/2 tank left.

I had strange readings with the 20L tank which was installed, but mostly other way around, gauge showing 1/2 but actually empty... Dealer mentioned that the fuell gauge probably could not fully move.

I have installed the original new 80ltr (€750,-) and they reinstalled the same gauge and seems to work fine.

I wanted to get as much as possible back to original, but due to the CNG much of the bottom is removed which i wasnt really aware of in the first place..

Ah i now see you are from the Netherlands as well... :) hope you have been able to solve it?

Yes, it seems there are quite a few of these X-CNG T6s around here :). My gage is seriously loopy, but I Know I can go at least 500km after filling up so I just keep resetting the clock when I do fill up. I seriously think these gauges are synchronized with the OBD on a 80L and having anything else will cause confusion in the workings... Glad yours is working fine again.
