Easy, 2 x 8mm bolt heads per unit. Really easy to adjust :)

They are on the back and are silver.

Bingo! Managed to put the bulb in the right way up and found those two screws to adjust the angle- have dialled them down a bit. Do these adjust the angle of each lamp up and down? One for main and one for dipped? Think I’ll go with the wiring harness solution for dipped + main..

If I remember correctly, there are two adjusters on the dipped and one on the main.

The inner one on the dipped is vertical and the outer is horizontal.

I think the main is just up and down, but will look again in the morning.

If you park a few metres from a wall at night, you can easily see the movement..

Are these any better than THQ lights?

LEDs in the dipped beam don't work well with the THQ projectors.

get yourself some HIDs and all will be sorted.

All the info is in the thread, just read back a few pages.

My lights are now great!
i thought the philips are ok tbh ,

I put some labels on the top of my THQ V2s before installing to avoid trial and error or using a mirror to read lettering on the back of the casing.

A couple of us have put the effort and money in to experiment with different set ups. It's all documented with pictures and links in the last few pages of the thread, so surely people can make their own judgements from the findings without being spoon fed?

Are these any better than THQ lights?

I did a review of those a couple of years back. In summary, externally they look better with no external wires and the light output with standard bulbs was an improvement over the H4s and comparable with the Sonar units that are sold by THQ. The LED strip was much more uniform in light output (don't see individual LEDs). That's the good bits.

The bad bits were no adjustment for beam height other than the usual electronic adjustment in the cab so I had to modify the beam adjuster motor's rod to get a usable distance to the dipped beam; lots of reports of failed LEDs (mine failed too) which made the vehicle illegal for use on the road as those also work as your side lights.

Aside from the external wiring which you can tidy up with conduit and the fabric wiring tape, the Sonar units (referred to in this thread as the THQ V1s) are a far better build quality.

Popped in to an independent vw garage today to have the headlight alignment checked. Turns out it was spot on- I did explain these were aftermarket units with HID bulbs fitted and the mechanic, who happens to be the MOT tester said they looked fine and in general as long as the install looks good will pass if the lights are working inside the cut off range. Guess I know where I will he getting future MOT’s done then!

Top result. Good to see you're not giving DVSA (was VOSA) a sniff of where this sensible tester is!

Very interesting read, I’ve just fitted some Philips xtreame led h7 and h1 to my thq headlights

the h7 are working although I do have a light on the dash, but the light output it awful

the h1 don’t even work have no idea why

Reading this thread I’m better off going hid on the dipped which I’m going to buy

many ideas on the h1 mains and why they don’t work??

I have tried all types of leds and the h7 are especially poor light output. I also tried the Philips h7 gen2 lights and some of the cheap Chinese bulbs gave far superior light output, they also gave a bulb out despite being canbus compatible.
I have just fitted a set of old h7 HiDs I had and the difference is night and day, they are 35w 4300k. I have stuck with the leds in the h1 though for quick startup. They seem to produce a pretty descent light and beam pattern.

My advice to all out there still trialling or contemplating led H7s is to forget it, stop wasting time and money and go down the HiDs route. The beam pattern is perfect and the output of light is especially good.

I have these fitted in the THQ GEN2 headlights

Great Thankyou!! Ordering a set of hids now, did your led h1 work fine? I’m wondering if my led h7 are causing them problems as they worked fine before I installed them. also how did you get your dipped and main to stay on at the same time?

Wow...how much?....jees mine are staying yellow for that price!.
