Time for a new Leisure Battery

I've been lurking on the forum for a few years but have never posted mainly because I have a T5.1 rather than a T6. I also understand that the T6 is different because of the start/stop function but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I usually post on the other forum but this place is much more active, so hopefully i can sort out my battery woes before the weekend!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've managed to kill off my leisure battery through lack of care (and by buying the wrong type) so I'm in the market for a new one.

I'm limited to smaller batteries, I think they're called Group 24, because of installation of the battery - It's located forward of the rear wheel arch in the under-sink cupboard of my van.

I've got a PMS 3.0 (which I know isn't a great hook-up unit) and a bog standard split charger. I'm now using a Norco smart charger to handle the charging when at home and a 200w solar suitcase for when i'm off-grid to keep things topped up.

As I understand it, AGM,Gel and Lithium batteries aren't an option unless I want to update the split charger and hookup.

Assuming all of this is right, that leaves me with 75-85ah batteries to choose from. I'm looking for a deep cycle battery apparently (?) and would like to maximise capacity for obvious reasons.

Van is fitted out with LED lighting, 12v point which is used for USB chargers and a Waeco Fridge/Freezer. I'm usually away for 2-4 nights and until recently didn't have the solar. I'd like to maximise my aH capacity so that a weekend without sun doesn't become a problem. I usually pre-chill my fridge (full of beers and food) and also put frozen ice blocks in the freezer compartment to help keep the temperature stable.

So who are the go-to people for batteries? Numax? Leoch? Someone else? So far, I've spotted the following options:

Leoch 85ah - Leoch Adventurer SFL-85 DT Sealed Leisure Battery

Numax 80ah - XDC24MF Numax Leisure Battery 12V 80Ah

Another Numax 80ah - Numax CXV24MF Sealed Leisure Battery 12V 80Ah 780MCA 500 Cycles XV24MF Not sure what the difference it the two above is although the CXV is advertised as deep cycle elsewhere.

Any insight whatsoever appreciated - I need to get something ordered asap to make sure that the bank holiday weekend isn't ruined!

Thanks, I ended up buying something. Took a while to find a battery which is happy for lots of off grid use and the right dimensions to fit in the space it needs to live.

No Worries Just hope you went to Honest John's it's only with smart alternators you might need to replace relay best wishes Nick

Got something from alpha batteries. They seem to review well based on some articles I read about the different types of battery.

Stuck with a sealed wet battery although I think I would probably have been ok with an AGM. Managed to get an extra 5Ah of capacity at c20 discharge rate.

Key difference is this one is designed for off grid, the last one specifically said not for off grid use (didn’t notice the sticker which said that) but I bought the first battery when I got the van and knew even less than I do now.

perfect Travelvolts would of sent you one of their's so you know its a good un AGM s are deep cycle too but your sorted just don't leave it flat or half charged

I think I’ll be tapping travelvolts up for some guidance on a charger that I can build into the van and A better solar controller.
