Three Year Old Van (almost). Extended Warranty Options Other Than Vw?

Hi all,

My van which I’ve had from new is three years old at the end of the month. So ten days to arrange an extended warranty.

VW are pushing me to extend their warranty on either everything or listed items. They have a web page with calculator. Enter current mileage, choose your cover level, then anticipated annual mileage and the excess you want to pay.

It’s expensive! Typically all covered, 10K miles a year, £250 excess, about £500 a year.

Anyone used another supplier for warranty or am I best to stick with VW?

They’ve been useless with door seal and tailgate leaks so far...

Clock ticking.

Thanks chaps!

Hi there did you buy a extended warranty. I am in the same position of looking for a extended warranty.

@Qais2020 - Original poster hasn't been on the forum in 8 months so you may not get a reply....

I can't comment on the VW extended warranty as my van is less than a year old.

Much coming up using the search function.?

I got what I thought was a pretty good warranty with a company called warranty wise. Covered for up to £150 per hour labour rate plus for all mechanical and electrical failures. Maximum claim £20000 I had a good read of it and they do genuinely pay out if something goes wrong, even investigation fee for if e gone management light goes. On it was expensive though, £1050 for 2 years, plus they have me two extra months free. I got it for peace. Of mind for a 2017 plate t6 shuttle I have purchased with 4250 miles on the clock.

Out of interest, did that include any breakdown cover? I ask as I paid the same sort of money for two years on an Audi with the main dealers that I bought it from but it also included full European breakdown which I would have had to buy anyway and that softened the blow somewhat! Just to be clear it was the firms policy and NOT Audis own.

I have just started looking, my VW Warranty finishes in November.
I saw click4warranty.co.uk
They are quoting £602 for 3 years cover - 5* cover with £7000 max per claim - list of items covered is attached.
Has anyone used this company?

I'm sure it didn't include breakdown cover. I'm a member of the aa and we have a family membership which covers me and wife for both of our cars which we are happy enough with though.

No doesn't include breakdown cover mate (as it happens I'm pretty happy with the aa and my policy covers me for any vehicle I am in)

Im personally thinking of doing a years extra with volkswagen directly. Yes its expensive. Yes im not overly sure on the quality of the work done at points, but.. eh.
I put it down to 'if it goes wrong, how easy will it be to sort it out'
This is like comparing apples with apples. they all look slightly different, with whats in between, and also with the 'juicy detail' of what is offered.
Warranties are a form of insurance. and god knows what that is. i mean, as in, do people on meth make up how the 'liability' calculatoations are made... lol (i kid, obviously.. or do i.. perpetual motive of unkowing possiblities of the cosmos of time and space..)

No mate, I googled them though and reviews look OK. Something to bear in mind is what is the labour rate they cover? Is it up to £150 per hour so you can take it to a franchised dealer, and also, is consequential damage to other parts covered.

Luckily my local VW specialist charges £84 per hour. They use VW parts, and I intend to use them for repairs. I might stick to VW for servicing - not decided yet.

Hi

Am in same boat extended mine in April with VW.

was away this week had a issue with oil quality so took no chances called VW up couldn’t look at it until 3 weeks time mid September told them still under warranty so got the ball rolling didn’t realise I wasn’t with VW assist as it didn’t auto renew so had AA out man didn’t want to touch the van so called up assist who allowed me to add it to my policy so paid £198 would have only been £109 if done when I extended my warranty but because I wanted to them to sort this issue out it was extra £80 having done this they then sent assist out who recovers my van then gave me a replacement t6 took it to VW Liverpool who then ran tests and it was returned to me 3 days after.

my costs - £409 VW warranty (£37 pm )
£198 VW assist.

sitting there worrying about my van and if engine is knackered etc when just about to blow31K on a conversion, warranty was worth every penny and VW assist well worth the up front t cost for the service I had, hiring a car and paying for a recovery would have well out weighed what I’ve just paid, plus am covers for the year now.

will continue to keep paying the money each year until I can’t these vans are so expensive and it’s my pride and joy so what’s £500 in the scheme of it when you’ve paid 30K plus on a van and similar if converted or labour hours doing it Up yourself.

since this happened this week I’d advise you to don’t hesitate my van only on 24K (12K) in two years since owning and washed and maintained every weekend so could get a better conditioned van luckily enough false alarm but what if it wasn’t ??

worth every penny of the cost of a warranty

Looking at taking out the VW extended warranty but I noticed within their eligibility cover it states the van can not be modified: Says :

Your van has not been modified from the manufacturer's specification

With most of us changing our vans would this give them a get of jail card if the engine blew!

Have you got a price for a extended warranty

My VW warranty is expiring in November and I've just had a price from Warranty Wise for 3 years cover for my 2017 T32 with 27k mileage, totaling £1369.70 for the 3 years, including upto £7k per claim, £100 excess, covers all mechanical and electrical faults/ failures, AA road side assistance (3 call outs per year), upto £250 for hotels if broken more than 50miles from my home address.
I dont think labour rates matter as they just cover the overall figure.
Not sure if it covers consequential damage to other parts, so will check that out.
