Hi everyone

Despite being a part time camper builder as some of you will know, - I've written another satirical thought piece on how the market will eventually collapse and were all going to die etc....
Its worth a read if you're bored - Dont forget to check out the other articles on our blog ... equally bizarre and unsettling.
We've made the website more accessible for mobile users too, the people we paid to do this couldn't work it out..., so I learned for myself - took one youtube video......guess that makes me a web designer now?

READ HERE.

Good read, will October 2022 be a good time to buy/bad time to sell?
Well - I honestly wouldn't like to have a punt. Id say good time to buy - bad time to sell (as a professional builder....) The second hand marketplace will be chocker with really nice conversions id say.... but what do I know.
Dont forget - 18 months ago, Auto trader choices were thin on the ground. Now its already picking up - but People are asking really dick prices for rusty crap wagons at the moment. everyone desperate, so people are capitalising.

A good article thanks. I think the campervan thing was rising before Covid, but it’s bonkers now.
It will no doubt all collapse as soon as the government money ends, or folks can go on holiday abroad.

Pete

See now I'm confused... a camper building hiatus, then what were you going to fix that sodding porthole to, a pop top midget submarine?:sneaky:

An interesting read that's replicated in every industry in boom times. The only people that win long term are always the 'clever' (diplomaticlly speaking) ones that ride the wave to the peak, then drop off, handing all responsibility to next mug who thinks the wave won't ever stop, by which time the first guy is already on the next wave, normally mopping up the desperate people that got him on that peak in the first place at a fraction of the original price. (dealers have been playing that game for years) Either that or they've turned their backs on the first triumph and already riding the next one, whilst watching for the one after that.

My industry is going through exactly the same (Caravans and Motorhomes) and in my 16 years of business, I've never been so busy. Will this last for me? I'd like to think it will, but people are fickle and the minute they can get back on a plane, they will drop Caravans and Motorhomes like stones causing the prices to plummet, and the knock on effect only hits those of us with morals.
Can I be bitter and grumpy about that inevitability? No. I'm wise enough now to know regardless of what's on the apparent surface, the number one priority for a majority of people will always be themselves. For every two people that jump ship, there's always one extra that stays. Peaks and Troughs, and I just learn to adapt or move on.

Covid for sure has raised demand but YouTube as played a large part with so many rose tinted glasses vanlifers proclaiming how wonderful van life is.
Living in a SWB van for a couple of months on the road is a good way to test your compatibility with your partner.
It certainly makes people resourceful if they weren’t already.

Watching John and Mandy on tour on YT and it dawns on you how living in a camper permanently could become like a permanent lockdown.
Downsides I could see would be constantly breathing in recycled farts, depleted menu due to one pot fry ups turning you into Jabba the Hut and worrying about your holiday home being carjacked as you park in that slightly dodgey edge of town carpark.

Very good. I thought that once the van gods stopped creating T's, the market was blown anyway? Is this not just a leg up on the last lap? It's been a different story as a mass participation events organiser for the last 18 months. Listening to 'Half Man, Half Biscuit' yesterday, one lyric jumped out - hopefully not a sign:
"When the light at the end of the tunnel,
Is the light of an on-coming train"

Thats exactly the trouble - we can't have morals in this industry, I genuinely cant bare selling. - we've actually stopped doing T5 and T6 now as the customer demands and expectations are so high and I'm literally getting phone calls off people 2 years down the line, not heard anything from them for 2 years.... saying there's a squeaking sound from one of the cupboards when they drive over bumpy terrain, or one of the drawer handles is loose (both genuine complaints)....... I always refer them to the fact we don't do warranty and they buy our vans on that basis. They are good vans, we put a lot of hard work and love into them - but squeaky cupboards after 2 years of use???...... come on man...... FFS!

I like will ferrels take on it - live with someone in a house with poor wifi connection and you'll see how they really are...

Have you noticed these so called youtube "Celebrities" as well - they just post videos of themselves doing live streams and not really talking about anything in particular.... they aren't tutorials on how to do things to your van, just giggling couples who have campers.....how does that happen? My heros were people like Donald Campbell and the guy that invented the spitfire and my parents......... kids now can be famous for absolutely naff all.
