Tent told me off

I don’t get the ‘Karen’ thing. Seems it’s nothing more than a ‘culture war’ (a horrid term in itself) title used to describe anyone that disagrees with you - or even doesn’t agree with someone else and then gets used by third parties watching the perceived incident from the sidelines.

Isn’t moaning about ‘Karen’s’ just the same as being a ‘Karen’?

You like loudness. Someone else likes quiet. What makes them the ‘Karen’.

Or are the ‘Karen’s’ also slagging off ‘Karen’s’ somewhere in their echo chambers?

It’s all to complicated for me. If someone’s loud it’s fair to tell them.

It's not a generic term for someone who disagrees with you. It's a generic term for someone being overly unreasonable and upwards. It's the verbal representation of an eye roll amongst bystanders. It's a shame it's a relatively common name admittedly.

It's used in an inflammatory manner at times don't get me wrong. If someone comes over and says you can't sit in your car with the engine running and your sat in an electric car, saying 'alright Karen! It's electric!' Is not really apt. Explaining It's electric in a civil manner is more apt. If the person says 'I don't care if its electric you are killing the bees and the hedgehogs! Turn it off or am calling the police'... then it's K bomb time 😄

I agree, I was once referred to as “pink Gammon” by, ironically “a person of colour”. The discussion wasn’t about race or culture, it was actually about the sacking of the Whitby RNLI crew for having a risqué coffee mug in the canteen. It seemed quite acceptable to the other person to weaponise my skin colour for the sake of scoring points in the debate. At that point I stepped back and pointed out that if that was their only argument, they had nothing more to contribute. My point being, if you have to resort to stereotypical labels in order to make your point, then your point has little currency.

Okay I get your view in that scenario. It's a lazy debate tool in that instance and likely his argument was failing. Calling someone a gammon/snowflake/remoaner etc is where debate turns to inflammatory exchange...

The OP had a mildly annoying incident occur whilst in his awning and we are agreeing the request for cessation by the canvas dweller was unreasonable. There's only a hint of Karenesqueness about this scenario but we are trying to support our offended forum member and soothe him is all 😅

I actually sided with the canvas dweller in an earlier post, so you can call me Karen.. but only on a weekend ;)

You can't be a Karen just because you agree with their point of view as such. You have to actively assail with pointing fingers and the like, spewing bilious rhetoric and whatnot to qualify.

Quietly tutting and saying in a forum i agree... well... you'd neet to write it in CAPS to break the seal mate 😂

It's a term we've imported from the US and it deffo arises from their culture war. Whilst the term has now been diluted to refer to anyone complaining, I believe its origins were slightly more nuanced.

From what I understand, the key component of a Karen is (or at least was at the outset) someone who feels entitled to stridently assert their authority where no basis for such authority exists and who then proceeds to 'lose their shit' when their unreasonable demands are not acceded to (a typical YT example being a HOA rep demanding compliance by householders who are demonstrably not members of said association).

As you say, it's not a pleasant term and it has more than a whiff of misogyny and ageism.

Hmm... which TV celebrity was it that recently referred to 'women of a certain age'? 🤔

Happened to me in the dibble. Being of Jewish heritage I find the term highly offensive, so in he came for racially aggravated public order offences.

He could have had a fixed penalty but thought he knew better so went to court instead.

Im not above a bit of joshing or mickey taking, but name calling in this context is indeed puerlie. They may be utter nodules, but calling them silly names is the sort of thing we expect from political supporters who don't get their own way, not grown ups.

I'd suggest calling someone 'Far Right' because they don't want their children *bothered* (substitute phrase of your choice) by illegal migrant hotel dwellers is another example of this

I’m forever calling my missus a Karen

Then again it is her name :p

This is all spinning way out of control as allowing for the wind overcoming the three coats of 2K clear lacquer finish in the illustration above the beast in the paparazzi shot is definitely of the Karen persuasion.
Looking further into that stealth picture and I could be mistaken but isn't that my favourite plumage for a Transporter and a "kukurma" coloured camper?

I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to have a fight with her! Can someone please enlighten me - who’s this Karenthat everyone’s going on about? A very quick Google didn’t turn up anything obvious.
