Hi all
I took a decision to sack off my drop down DVD player idea in favor of an iPad or Tablet as they much more user friendly and can be used for more than films !

Question for ya all is whats peoples advice for watching UK TV while on a road trip in Europe

I'm just after some advice as best way to do it

Thanks all in advance
Romany

If you want to use the iPad and an app rather than the android type Kodi boxes which would require a separate tv, the best way is to use IPTV.

Obviously, this methods will require access to Wi-fi or a 3/4G dongle to provide internet and often a subscription to a provider service but will enable you to watch anything anywhere.

Some allow you to create playlists or favourites of your channels so you don’t have to wade through hundreds of channels to find what you want.

Another easy way is to use Plex. This is an program that runs on a pc/laptop/home server and can be accessed via an app on the iPad. There are 2 main ways of using Plex, 1st is to have a pc running at home where you store movies and films and can have addons like IPTV or physically have a tuner card to receive tv signals and the 2nd way is to pay someone to subscribe to their Plex account where they do all this and you get full tv/movies etc..

Have a google and see what suits your needs better.

once you cross borders, you'll need an app called a VPN (subscription) that allows you to "tunnel" back to wherever you want (UK)

it's because TV through internet is "geo fenced"

Not strictly true, yes if you want to use SkyGo, NowTV, iPlayer etc... these are restricted to UK based IP addresses so you would need to vpn to watch these.

If you use IPTV or Plex (IPTV is easier unless you have the right kit at home) they work anywhere as they are internet based not direct services from a UK source.

My IPTV works anywhere, this new year we were watching tv in France and last Easter we were watching in Australia.

Not strictly true,
You still essentially reach, "tunnel", to a machine in a UK territory
You might as well encrypt all your data back home then... (then again, the French Snooper charter is weaker)
Depends if you trust wifi hotpsot (pointless via 3/4G)

What I find the most irritating, if you want to watch French tv, the app (molotov tv) is not even available on the android store, even when you visit in France, if your android store is set to UK.
So you can't stream neither UK nor French TV! lol (not that I watch much of either tbh)
There are work arounds, like sideloading (on android at least), or temporary switching store market (but then your app won't keep up to date once you revert)

It's like they didn't think people go on holiday/work abroad...
What a pain in the rear end! ...

I use an iPhone/iPad and the GSE app with a Vader Streams account and can watch everything everywhere. I guess it’s a non uk based service that has its own access to uk channels?

Netflix is fine. Disney will not work. I always download some stuff just in case.
