T6 Transporter Vanilla - CaroleNash Insured Last Year - this year they have declined

Had my t6 for year now, had it insured with CaroleNash when i purchased the vehicle. No probelms.

Needed European Cover as drive it to France a few times a year.
Renewal came round and the price had gone up a bit ( To be expected i guess ) to £590

This is a totally vanilla unmodified T6 Sportline with 60k on the clock.

Took the renewal out about 4 weeks ago , and after the renewal date on the 8th of may i got a letter asking me to provide the V5 for the Van and pictures of the front and rear.

They have then come back and saying the underwriters have declined to insure as the vehicle is a Minibus not a van....

CaroleNash then cancelled the policy , i got a full refund as this happened within 7 days of the renewal date.

I then had to shop around to get a new insurance policy, being extra careful to make it clear this is a T6 Transporter , got some wild quotes above £800...

Then i get a letter from Carole Nash today saying they have canceled my insurance policy because i gave them incorrect information at the application stage ( This was over 1 year ago ) and i now have to inform all future insurance applications i have had an 'inforced Cancellation rejected' on my record..

Carole Nash stated they have changed underwriters and this is why this has occured...

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Cheers for your input ... its not even a modifed Transporter...

Have they said what wrong information you gave them?

I would absolutely challenge this as it will affect you whenever you insure anything.

Get it in writing, exactly what they think you have done wrong.

here is the wording.

We write with reference to your insurance policy ****. We have been notified by your insurer Nig that they will no longer offer cover on this policy due t the following reasons

* Providing incorrect details at the inception of the policy.

Please be aware you must advise any current or future insurer or broker that you have had an enforced cancellation rejected.

This feels extremely unfair , especially since they insured the vehicle for a whole year before with no problems..

Im not sure what rights i have .. seems like a total stitch up...I will have to talk to them direct again but im not even a customer anymore.....

The van was insured in good faith previously with all details provided..at inception.. as far a i can tell at least.

How many seats does your T6 have and how many are stated on the V5?

Be careful when you are asked the question ‘Have you ever been refused insurance?’ A friend on mines premium increased significantly after he ‘forgot’ to give the correct answer.

My t6 has 2 front seats and 3 in the back in a single row...

V5 states number of seats including Driver 6 and body type of MINIBUS.

The statement of insurance from the new underwriter states
Make = Volksw TRANSPORTER T32 Komb 204
Type of Body/Num of seats = Van/ 5

This is before they declined to renew ...

I have contacted CaroleNash and started an Officail Complanint procedure, the guy on the phone suggested becase i had been a customer of 1 year they should have been more carefull when renewing with the new underwriters .

Hopefully the complaint process gets this mark removed from my record.. but its just the fafff involved.
I will keep you all posted..

That suggests it's the V5 data that's triggered this - what's the actual VW variant type of your van?

I would only expect the Shuttle variant to be designated as body type Minibus

Always worth using Voice Recorder when making important phone calls to insurance brokers. Obviously just for training and monitoring purposes.

Well since my conversation with CaroleNash about this they have called me back and are trying to get to the bottom of why this has happened.

They are calling the underwriters tomorrow and getting back in touch..

So to be fair to them they have realized something is not correct..

Here is my V5 it states Body Type MiniBus.. do you think its possible to get this changed ??

That's a DVLA **** up which has caused this. To be fair on the underwriters, they will have just gone by the DVLA classification which is blatantly wrong - insuring a minibus which has 9 seats or more is very different from insuring a van with 5 or 6 seats.

What VW variant is your van in your paperwork/manual etc?

If it's anything other than "Shuttle" I'd think you'd have a very strong case to get it changed.

To be fair to DVLA it might not be their **** up depending who registered the van originally.

This is from the VW Docs i the van..

Its not very clear, what other documents would give the info about the VW Variant?

And thanks for all your input its been very helpful.

Well that's pretty hard evidence you're not a Minibus then - I'd take this up with DVLA to get your details corrected but keep the pressure on the insurers.

Looks like there is nothing wrong with the information you provided the fault seems to be in the DVLA data they checked. At most your only error is not noticing the wrong bodytype on the V5 and getting it corrected.

Ok i can submit a change request with the V5 as a BodyType change ( Guess this is what you need to do when converting to a Camper ) , what would this normally be with a T6 Transporter with 5 seats? Shuttle or Kombi?

Looks like its Kombi on the Registration Doc above.

I will be keeping up the pressure on the Insurance company .. ill keep you updated on progress.
