Front Door Opening Angle…

Hi folks, no idea which forum page would be best for this question, so apologies in advance if it’s the wrong place.

I’m a new owner of a 2018 T6, and find that the front doors don’t open as wide as I would expect, and certainly not as far as my old van (not VW!). I can see on the door stops that the limiter has another notch available (green on my photo), but there’s a small block (red on my photo) preventing it from opening that far. Can I remove this without causing issues? Anyone know why it’s there in the first place? It’s clearly a factory fitted part so must have a purpose…

The reason I’d like to have the door open further is that my van has rather wide running bars/steps that stick out quite a way, and I would like to have the door swing open further to make it easier to avoid them when getting out. I think longer term I’ll probably swap them for lower profile side bars.
