Help needed…
My 6.1 Startline head unit screen is blank but the radio turns on and off… is there any way of pairing my phone without the screen being active?

No. There's a separate fuse for the screen iirc I'd check that. How do you know the radio is on is there audio coming out.

Yes, the radio will come on and off if I press the on off button.. and it shows up in the centre of the speedo display.. weirdest thing!

Sounds like LCD module has died is it under warranty?

about 6 months out sadly.
Might have to look at an alternative head unit… quoted £3k for a replacement OEM one.

Before going down a path of spending that much it might be worth trying the full battery disconnected ECU restart trick.

My head unit locked up in Android Auto and it took letting the van go to sleep for a day or so until it cleared.

It may well not help but it costs nothing but some time and faff before you think about spending?

So I’ve seen a second hand unit for sale online and it should be a straight swap over… anyone know if they are locked to each chassis number or if so can they be recoded?

The infotainment system on the 6.1s have the worst reliability I’ve known . Mine has been a constant problem from new. Booked in for the third time 16/1/24 when they tell me the it will fully sorted- with new hardware / software. Lets see!

Yes they are locked to chassis and will require adapting on ODIS.

We can do this at our workshop in Chesterfield

Hope so for you! I've had 7 trips this year.

After having van for 3 weeks, VW more recently said "it's your retrofit digital dash"

Paid for it to be removed and original clocks put in. Problem persisted of taking 5-20 mins to boot after off for 8+ hours

"It's your rear speakers" we can no longer work on the vehicle due to non-VW parts fitted.

I had actually had the 5f replaced 6 months ago, all worked ok until VW did an update which I specifically asked them not to do.

I'm going to calm down over Christmas and decide next action - do fancy a Halo 11 though, that'll sort it

Hi.

T6.1 eTransporter owner here and my screen has just died about 2 weeks after having it serviced!

What is the warranty on them please? I had leased the van from new April 2021 and bought it about 6 weeks ago.

I am fuming as you can imagine!

Any help appreciated.

Generally the factory warranty is 3 years.

What do you mean by died? Is it not responding to touch or just blank? And I assume you mean the head unit screen not a digital dash?

If it's the head unit then try to restart it by pressing and holding the power down for at least 10 seconds - my head unit locks up from time to time or doesn't talk to the digital dash and a restart sorts it out.

The dash is fine.

It’s the main screen! There is still a bit of back light but the screen is showing faint vertical lines.

I tried the power button reset but didn’t help.
Before I did the reset I was still able to get the radio on. Since the reset no radio (assume it’s wiped the saved stations)

Van is just out of warranty by about 15 days!! Can’t help but feel VW / VW Swansway have broken it on purpose to force me to put my hand in my pocket.

I’m livid!!

It's more likely just unfortunate timing.

Have you been in touch with them?

It's not a reset but a restart so nothing will be wiped but I suspect at start up no media device is playing.

Hopefully if that's your regular Van Centre then they can sort it with some goodwill argument with VW.

I'm not best placed to advise if that's not what you want to do but @Dav-Tec and @Absolut5 are forum regulars that do this for a living and may be able to suggest things.

If it's just the screen not working they're cheap enough to replace second hand. If it's the mib unit that's dead they're very expensive new but again 2nd hand cheap enough but will need setting up on ODIS we can take a look and advise

I am in Merseyside.

I think it’s the lcd screen which has gone.
The Bluetooth / hands free still works with my iPhone but I can’t access anything from the screen as it’s “black”

Sounds like it's the screen if the audio is working
