T6.1 head unit upgrade

Evening all,

Apologies if this has been covered in detail, I have searched the forum but have been unable to find what I'm after..

I've got a T6.1 with the standard 6.5" screen, it has nav and android auto but it's just too small for the dash IMO.. I'd like to upgrade to the 9.2" MIB3 Discover Pro but at £2k+ I can't warrant that atm, so wondered if the 8" version would be more "plug and play"? I believe the 9.2" requires a change to the 'box of tricks' behind the dash, can I avoid that if only going to the 8"?

I'm not a fan of the floating halo style, I prefer the integrated look, so if there are any other options to consider that'd be great; I've seen a couple of Ebay specials for a few hundred but no idea if they would allow the standard vehicle features... With a slow puncture (garage can't find it) I'm resetting tyre pressures every couple of weeks so need those features too..

Any help is much appreciated, near Milton Keynes if there are any local places recommended.

Cheers, Nick

Thanks @Matt-T68, what are you going for out of interest?

The more I look at the well known brands, Alpine/Pioneer/Kenwood etc., it seems the actual screen size would be no bigger..? 6.8" in most cases.. I'm getting the impression it's either top dollar for VW OEM, or bottom dollar for Chinese knockoff if a big integrated screen is the order of the day!

@Dav-Tec please tell me there's something in between that's reliable!

I'm going for the 9.2". I don't like the floating screens either. So I am just biting the bullet and going the whole hog.

The Discovery Media and Discovery Pro both require the 'box of tricks' behind the dash. They are 2 part systems, screen in the dash and control unit near the glove box.

Only the Composition Colour has it all in a single unit.

Thanks @admrobrts looks like I may just have to bite the bullet and go all out on the 9.2"! Some of the other aftermarket integrated ones I've seen appear to lose function of the USB-C sockets, I don't like the idea if that.

Nick88 I have just watched a video by SNS showing a swap from the box standard T6.1 head unit to the larger MIB2 unit. I too like the oem look rather than the floating screen look.
Did you manage to get any further with this?

Did you go ahead with this?

We have been retaining the usb c sockets for the past couple years

@DarrylDunn @Skyliner33 I ended up going for a Dynavin D9 instead - 9-inch Android navigation system D9-333 Pro - C for VW T6.1 Transporter - Dynavin UK & IRELAND

It is doing the job, but is by no means as good as the larger OEM, it just suited my budget better! It still supports all of the standard VW bits, like vehicle settings/resetting tyre pressures etc., but I have it on Android Auto 99% of the time. I lost use of the USB-C sockets, but the unit comes with two USB sockets on the rear, so I added some extensions to USB-C and have these available to me at the same location as the sockets - works for when I need to charge on longer trips, the unit offers wireless AA for shorter trips. Overall it suits me, but it has been crashing a few times of late, I think I need to check whether there is a later software version to upgrade to..
